Restore Affordable Birth Control

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Did you know that a federal law from 2005 inadvertently caused prescription birth control prices to soar? This drastic increase in cost has affected university health centers and family-planning clinics around the country, making prescription contraception unaffordable for many college students and lower income women! College students around the country prompted Congress to introduce a bipartisan solution to restore access to affordable birth control. While the cost of the original legislation adds up every day, this new bill won't cost taxpayers a single penny. The Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was introduced by Representatives from both parties who agree that access to affordable contraception is the most effective way to prevent unintended pregnancy. Dear [Decision Maker],

The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 inadvertently caused contraceptive prescription prices around the country to skyrocket. The bipartisan Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was recently introduced to remedy this problem. It is critical that this bill move quickly before more women find themselves no longer able to afford their prescription birth control.

Access to affordable contraception is vitally important. The price increase could force young women to go off birth control, and we all know that birth control is crucial to reducing unintended pregnancy and thus the need for abortion.

[Your comment]

This legislative fix to the problem would not cost taxpayers even a single penny.

I urge you to work quickly to ensure its passage.

Sincerely,

The decision to have a child in these days is very difficult. Putting new children into an uncertain future on an overcrowded planet with a dying ecology and a destroyed athmosphere is something very difficult. Therefore everybody must have the chance to take control.

Because they are many people whose beliefs allow family planning (which is now the same as abortion, which I and many others may not agree with), and they should not be discriminated on the high cost of birth control. Please help!

I'm a poor graduate student who needs birth control to manage PCOS. Student health insurance may only cover a small portion of my $54/month prescription.

Our bodies belong to no one else but ourselves. Thus, controlling what happens inside and outside our bodies is no one's business but our own.
