Restore Affordable Birth Control

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Did you know that a federal law from 2005 inadvertently caused prescription birth control prices to soar? This drastic increase in cost has affected university health centers and family-planning clinics around the country, making prescription contraception unaffordable for many college students and lower income women! College students around the country prompted Congress to introduce a bipartisan solution to restore access to affordable birth control. While the cost of the original legislation adds up every day, this new bill won't cost taxpayers a single penny. The Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was introduced by Representatives from both parties who agree that access to affordable contraception is the most effective way to prevent unintended pregnancy. Dear [Decision Maker],

The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 inadvertently caused contraceptive prescription prices around the country to skyrocket. The bipartisan Prevention Through Affordable Access Act was recently introduced to remedy this problem. It is critical that this bill move quickly before more women find themselves no longer able to afford their prescription birth control.

Access to affordable contraception is vitally important. The price increase could force young women to go off birth control, and we all know that birth control is crucial to reducing unintended pregnancy and thus the need for abortion.

[Your comment]

This legislative fix to the problem would not cost taxpayers even a single penny.

I urge you to work quickly to ensure its passage.

Sincerely,

You need to fix this problem. It affects everyone. Nothing worse than an unwanted child in the world.

Please help couples to be responsible in their choice of having children or not by making prescriptions for contraceptives affordable for all. Children who are neglected and not receiving the proper care and love have a lifetime of suffering if they are not wanted by their parents. Birth control helps prevent a lot of suffering and traumatized children.

Affordable birth control will reduce abortions, and potentially improve the lives of poor women all over the country.

This is important in order to prevent more children being born to those that are not mature enough, financially able or mentally stable enough to raise a child and to limit the number of abortions by prevention.

Unwanted babies are rarely treated well, rarely thrive, and can become a burden to families and society. Keeping the cost of contraceptive reasonable should be a priority. Step up and stand up for everyone.

I was totally unaware of this problem, since I'm well past the need for this protection. I would support free birth control in preference to the birth of unwanted, unplanned for children. I am pro-choice, but would hope that prevention is available and practiced before going with that option. Obviously, birth control must be kept available at low/no cost.
