Lift Women Out of Poverty with the GROWTH Act

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: CARE
Women in poor communities are more likely to spend their income on food, education and health care for their children -- activities that help lift families out of poverty. However, they often face unequal barriers to participating actively in their countries' economies.

That's where U.S. aid programs can play a role. The GROWTH Act will help women lift themselves and their communities out of poverty by providing:

  • Loans to help women start and grow their own businesses.
  • Skills training for women.
  • Information about their legal rights in the workplace.
  • Stronger women's land and property rights so that assets can be used as collateral.

Tell your legislators to make economic opportunities for poor women around the world a priority! Countless women are eager for access to better employment opportunities and improved working conditions.

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 30,000

Dear [Decision Maker]:

I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor The Global Resources and Opportunities for Women to Thrive Act - H.R.2965 in the House and S.2069 in the Senate.

Women in poor communities are more likely to spend their income on food, education and health care for their children -- activities that help lift families out of poverty. However, they often face unequal barriers to participating actively in their countries' economies.

U.S. international assistance and trade programs should prioritize economic opportunities for poor women around the world, and allocate resources to promote women's ability to start and grow their own businesses.

Being a woman I have dealth with inequity my whole life--It is about time that women should be a priority for setting things right in what should be a Free country--It's not free if women aren't free to access equal oportunity-they carry most of the burdens for childcare but don't have equal opportunity

While women still struggle for FULL equality in our Western culture, women in most of the rest of the world are still dealing with the most basic human rights issues. It's been proven that if you give a sustainable plan to the women, they WILL lift the community. If you're serious about cutting poverty, support the women first.

Well if they stop overbreeding and start taking responsibility for the consequences of their own actions.... I am tired of everyone expecting a free ride of the us taxpayers back. Less than 1 percent of the us population is rich. The us is only 4% of the world population and its economy is broken thanks to the give away programs of congress and outsourcing of greedy business owners. Better ask China for help. They are the ones with the money now: thanks to the US government & us businesses.

Micro loans and skills training help lift women out of poverty, which leads to lifting families out of poverty, which leads to lifting communities out of poverty. Get the picture. Support this program.
