When President Bush told the American people on Sunday, September 7th, that he needed $87 billion from Congress for the reconstruction and occupation of Iraq, it was about twice what the administration had been saying we need.
And now, from a Los Angeles Times report on September 9, we learn that it's tens of billions of dollars short of what we'll actually need to finish the job in Iraq.
When is Bush going to be honest with the American people? We already know that Bush:
Politicized intelligence and twisted the facts in his rush to war, including telling the American people that Iraq sought uranium from Africa after it was proven false.
Announced "mission accomplished" long before the job in Iraq was finished. More American soldiers have died in Iraq after Bush's announcement than before it.
Failed to plan for a post-Saddam Iraq or the search for weapons of mass destruction. The Pentagon issued a classified report that blasted the administration for failing to plan for what came after the military victory.
And now we find out Bush still won't come clean about how much we need to rebuild Iraq.
It's time for President Bush to tell the truth to the American people.
Please sign this petition calling on Bush to be honest about the sacrifices Americans will make to win the peace in Iraq. The American people deserve the truth.
By signing this petition, you will receive updates and political alerts from the DNC.
We signed the “Demand the Truth from the Bush Administration!” petition!

Tell the people that have lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, etc., that President Bush had a good reason to go to war. He lied, pure and simple. I feel sorry for those families and I am also sympathetic toward Prime Minister Tony Blair, who had the guts to back us up when no one else would. God Bless you Mr. Blair and God forgive President Bush for not telling us the truth!

I believe that this "war" was definitely related to OIL, and Bush's interest in it. It sickens me to think that our president would rather let our country's troops be killed for that, than find a way to divert money from aid to foreign countries and tobacco companies towards creating alternative fuel. It's time for him to be held accountable.

The war on Iraq seems to have been carried out because of that country's rich oil supplies.

I have always known that Bush attacked Iraq for its oil not to oust Saddam or WMD and for all other reasons he said Iraq did...they are mostly lies...his real reason was OIL...that is not a good reason and there have been many losses of life over his greed of oil. All those blood that was shed is on the Bush Regime's hands. He has to answer for the losses of the lives.

If something as minor as a sexual indiscretion received so much scrutiny, the loss of many lives of both allied troops and Iraqis deserves AT LEAST that much attention!
If Bush lied to get us to go to war, he is against the principles on which this country was founded and should be removed from office.

I support our troops and families... I do NOT want to see any more of them killed in this senseless new Vietnam... Bush should be held accountable for every death he has brought to us for this clean up after his father.... We still have not seen any of the WMD... Is that also another mislead investigation... I want our men and women home so they can take care of business here in our own back yard...

The Bush administration has woefully undermined decades of environmental protection, destroyed America's economy and our global reputation, and continues to strive toward elimination of basic freedoms and rights. Sending our troops to be killed and maimed without valid reason is outrageous. Killing and injuring innocent civilians, bombing an ancient country, disrupting countless lives - for what? OIL? EGO? Bush wasn't even ELECTED! He should not be permitted to get away with these atrocities.

The fact that the republicans in the senate have already killed the call for an independent commision suggests they have something to be afraid of. If there is nothing to hide, there is nothing to worry about. After all, the credibility of the nation in the eyes of the world is on the line.

this administration is out of control. They are ignorant and dishonest...this is just another in the long line of crap we have endured with the Bush dynasty. What about pursuing Enron and other corporate crooks? OH........wait, that's right, more lies! Let's get rid of these crooks by voting them out of office! Please investigate SOMETHING!! If not the crooked corporate deals wreaking havoc on this economy and the average person, then at least investigate WHY we invaded another country. Lies, it is all lies.
Thanks

The Bush Administration has proven to be one of the most secretive in US history. The Republican Congress has aided the administration by whittling away at the public's right to comment on federal actions. It is time to remind the Bush administration that, as public servants, they can, should, and must be held accountable to the American public for their actions.

The intrigity of our Presidency is at risk, as well as our government is in question for many reason. To tell a lie as did Clinton for whatever the reason, is not right. Now who is being judged! He (Bush) needs to come clean to the public. No one would hate him for that... Come correct!

I'm currently living in Ireland and have found that the people of Europe are able hold their elected officials much more accountable for their actions than the people of the US are. We need to raise the standards of the American Democracy and end the USs international policy of might makes right.

Now he cannot be trusted. All this non-sense about weapoms of mass destruction. Maybe they did have them and moved them, when you plan on busting someone you dont go out here and annouce what you are going to do to them over and over again. Thats just giving the other side time to get rid of/ hide ect whatever it is thats about to get them in trouble to begin with. Keep in mind Bush wasnt elected into office he was placed there on a technicality that just so happen to be in the same state where his brother was governor at the time. We can demand an investigation but the chances of anything ever happening are slim to none. After this little stunt w/ Bush I have lost all confidence in our government.
