Puppy Torturers Receive Strong Sentence – Congratulate Georgia DA!

Target: Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard
Sponsored by: ASPCA
Last August, two teenage brothers in Atlanta, GA, were charged with torturing and baking a three-month-old puppy to death. Just recently, justice was served - the brothers received the maximum sentence allowable in each of the nine counts under which they were charged. These sentences will be served concurrently, and in effect, the young men will serve 10 years in prison and 10 years under strict probation, for a total of 20 years.

The horrific death of this poor puppy touched animal lovers around the world, and the strong sentencing in this case highlights how strongly the public feels about cruelty toward animals.

Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard felt so strongly about seeking justice in this case – describing the death of this puppy as "so egregious it cries out for special attention" - that he sent a letter to Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue requesting that the penalty for animal cruelty be raised above the current five year maximum.

DA Howard should be applauded for his commitment to justice and the humane treatment of animals – please sign this petition today to congratulate him on success in this case!

Dear District Attorney Howard,

We, the undersigned, congratulate you on the conviction and strong sentencing of Joshua and Justin Moulder, and we want to thank you for calling on Georgia's Governor and legislature to toughen penalties for people convicted of intentional torture of animals.

This puppy died a cruel and gruesome death. Thank you for pursuing this case so seriously and for your leadership in fighting the inhumane treatment of animals.
We signed the “Puppy Torturers Receive Strong Sentence – Congratulate Georgia DA!” petition!

Thank you for doing the right thing. So often crimes against animals go with only a slap on the wrist. I think people that are cruel to animals have the potential to have the same disregard for humans and should be taught a lesson. Thank you for doing your job and punishing those that deserve it.

Thank you for removing two very dangerous personalities from the general population. Today's animal torturers are tomorrow's serial killers. We had a local case of teenagers battering young goats - kids, literally, and they got off with a 'slap on the wrist', and I believe their names were not made public. Who would want their children attending school with peers capable of such monstrous, evil behavior? Thank you for drawing the line where it counts.

Thank you, sir, for doing what's right, for doing your job, for standing up for creatures who don't deserve to die at the hands of these savages. I only hope that they get what they deserve in prison. May the Lord have mercy on them, cuz I don't think the other inmates will.

What you did must be commended, as what most people may not understand is that individuals who perform these unacceptable acts on animals are very capable of doing this to humans as well. They need to be stopped and re-habilitated otherwise this abuse will continue on not just animals, but people as well.

I agree that sentencing for this type of brutality to a poor helpless companion animal is not even close to being acceptable in regard to the act committed. "People" (and i use the term loosely!) that do things like this to pets will only continue, not only with animals, but eventually humans. The punishment should be just as strict as if it was a human.
