End China's Human Rights Abuses in Tibet Before the 2008 Olympics
Target:Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee President Sponsored by:Care2.com
Although China is known around the world for violating human rights in Tibet, the International Olympic Committee chose Beijing as the site for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Tens of thousands of Tibetans have been forced to leave their homeland due to the brutal Chinese occupation.
China's current policy toward Tibet includes:
Imprisoning and torturing Tibetans who speak out against the Chinese occupation of Tibet;
Violating religious freedoms, including abducting one of Tibet's most important religious figures when he was only six years old. The boy has not been seen since 1995;
Failing to provide adequate education and health care to Tibetan children, and to eradicate child malnutrition and preventable illnesses; and
Enforcing laws that discriminate against Tibetan identity, culture, and religion.
China has a historic opportunity to change its treatment of Tibetans and show the world that it's worthy to host the 2008 Olympics by negotiating a peace agreement with Tibet's exiled leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Let China know that its successful Olympic bid does NOT mean the world sanctions its mistreatment of Tibetans! CALL ON CHINA TO END HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN TIBET.
We signed the “End China's Human Rights Abuses in Tibet Before the 2008 Olympics” petition!

It is despicable to hide human rights abuses behind a facade of 'fair play', games and fireworks.

Stop the Chinese government's torturous bloodletting of the Tibetan people who are attempting to stand and be heard in pursuit of challenging injustices occurring within their communities by the same Chinese government that crushes their voices. Support freedom and the right of people to be heard. Stand not to just fight for supposed freedom in a country filled with oil (Iraq) but stand to confront and challenge in support of freedom, open government and the right of the average people's voices to be heard wherever these rights are being infringed upon - such as has been happening in Tibet.
And to anyone else who cares to make a daily difference from their own communities: STOP BUYING CHINESE GOODS. Look for alternative products and brands to support companies that do not manufacture goods in China and to spread consumer money out to governments other than China; usually by just paying a little more many products can be found that are not made in China and by paying a little more you are likely helping people who make these products to be paid a decent wage. Also don’t frequent Chinese piggy banks such as Wal-mart and Target stores where a ridiculous amount of their stocked products are made in CHINA. And if no alternative, slightly more expensive products can be found, then decide how important it is for you to have these products. If it is very important that you procure these products that can only be found as being made in CHINA then buy the cheapest made in CHINA product in that instance to send as little money as possible to the CHINESE government. FYI, Williams-Sonoma is a store with many kitchen products which are made in the United States, Italy, France but not many made in China.

A political statement should be made to Beijing that the human rights abuses perpetrated by the Chinese government shall not go unnoticed and absolved on the world stage by participating in the Olympics in that country. A world boycott is the least the world can do to show its disapproval

A country who treats their own people so cruely should not be rewarded with an event that claims to bring people of the world together in the spirit of peace!

Yes,it is a historical opportunity grasped by the courageous Tibetan people to all the countries that will participate to the Olympic Games. How the human values of the Olympism set forh by Pierre de Coubertin can be claimed by the Olympic committee if the civil rights are trampled by the Chinese government.

Now is the time where we will see if those in charge will ignore this human rights issue simply due to the economic power of China. If so, how shameful. If so, we are no different than animals by not using reasoning and logic and basic morality to realize that basic freedoms are being denied. The Tibet situation at the moment, would fail China's ability to host the Olympics, since they are not meeting the Human Rights standards they SIGNED! Check up, for the benefit of all people, check up! May all conflicts reach harmonious understandings, and may we all abide in peace.

Why was China chosen to host the Olympics? How can the spirit of fair play be acted out in a country that doesn't even believe in basic human dignity? Shame on the IOC for a poor decision.

since i live elephants are my favourite pets. Would like to live in their country to have one in its own region. Thats the fact about me. But the fact about many humans is, that they hunt elephants for money reasons. Just for fears about "their" farms, or more bad because the like hunting. Now we live far away from the stonetime, and need not to hunt. Hunting for fun is cruelty to us, because we are nature, too. Stopp killing elephants!

Wow. Buddhism has never been an abusive religion. Why would they be abused? Methinks jealousy is a factor here.

Ignoring human rights issues is not an image for the world olympics.
WORK FOR PEACE IS FOR EVERYBODY'S FUTURE.
I am disgusted that any Canadians, Chinese-Canadians or otherwise, would support this 2008 Olympics. Canadas goal is of world peace; too bad the Olympics goal is simple ignorance.
