End China's Human Rights Abuses in Tibet Before the 2008 Olympics
Target:Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee President Sponsored by:Care2.com
Although China is known around the world for violating human rights in Tibet, the International Olympic Committee chose Beijing as the site for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Tens of thousands of Tibetans have been forced to leave their homeland due to the brutal Chinese occupation.
China's current policy toward Tibet includes:
Imprisoning and torturing Tibetans who speak out against the Chinese occupation of Tibet;
Violating religious freedoms, including abducting one of Tibet's most important religious figures when he was only six years old. The boy has not been seen since 1995;
Failing to provide adequate education and health care to Tibetan children, and to eradicate child malnutrition and preventable illnesses; and
Enforcing laws that discriminate against Tibetan identity, culture, and religion.
China has a historic opportunity to change its treatment of Tibetans and show the world that it's worthy to host the 2008 Olympics by negotiating a peace agreement with Tibet's exiled leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Let China know that its successful Olympic bid does NOT mean the world sanctions its mistreatment of Tibetans! CALL ON CHINA TO END HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN TIBET.
We signed the “End China's Human Rights Abuses in Tibet Before the 2008 Olympics” petition!

If nothing else, China can't NOT notice the world's reaction to their policies.

Dear Mr. Rogge,
I applaud your condemnation of Beijing's politicization of the Torch Relay in Tibet.
I urge you to continue to pressure the Chinese Communist Government to allow international human rights monitors to visit Tibet to assess the on-going humanitarian crisis unfolding in Tibet. The the last four months, as the Summer Olympiad approaches, Chinese security forces have attacked the Tibetan population with murder, torture, deportation, arrest and assault.
The world has watched in horror, and and the world is watching and waiting for China and the IOC to do the right thing.
We ask you continue to pressure Beijing to allow rights monitors and journalists into Tibet.
Thank you,
Maura Moynihan

It's such a pity that the Olympic Games are tainted because of the situation in Tibet. These people have suffered too much, you should give them a chance to survive and your image would be enlightened.
I won't watch the games and most people think you're acting as barbarians. Free Tibet, please!

What China is doing in Tibet is criminal. Genocide is not pretty, no matter who is doing it.

please help any way you can, to let tibet have a voice.
what China is doing is wrong---the killing of a culture so you can take their natural resources is WRONG.
anyone in a position of leadership should do all they can to help convince China to allow Tibet to have their own government.
It would be the highest achievement if China would actually really negotiate with the Dalai lama.

Tibets human rights are far from normal, its not far, and everyoe should be treated equally. Saying this China needs to straighten up and change its human right abuse to just plan regular human rights like any other place in China.

The Olympic movement is doing its own reputation no good by turning a blind eye to such blatant disregard of human rights. Many people already perceive the Olympic movement as tainted by politics and commercial interests and the choice of Beijing as a host city can only have increased public disenchantment with the movement.

Very disappointing to have the Olympic committee support a country that does so much harm to so many. This brings politics into the Olympics, and many worthy athletes may feel pressure not to attend because of this. A shame for the sporting event that a poor location choice can spoil it with politics.

The best way China can impress the world is by respecting the rights of the Tibetan people.
