Limit Patients' Access to Health Care? Help Stop Cuts to Medicare!

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
The future for patients’ access to health care is bleak.

While millions of baby boomers are about to retire and swell Medicare’s ranks, the government is cutting patients access to Medicare. It makes no sense. You have spent years paying taxes and paying into social security. Now insurance companies want to cut your benefits to line their own pockets.

Past Medicare cuts have made it more difficult for patients to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

Now is your chance to protect yourself and your family — the future of your health is in your hands.

Tell Washington bigwigs to stop playing politics with your health care. Sign the petition to Congress today!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.

Dear [Decision maker],

I strongly urge you to stop Medicare pay cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for patients to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

With millions of Baby Boomers about to retire and swell Medicare's ranks, these cuts make no sense. Americans have spent years paying taxes and paying into Social Security. We refuse to let insurance companies cut our benefits to line their own pockets.

If you don't act now, doctor payment cuts will jeopardize Americans' access to doctors. Please make good on your promise to America's families by stopping Medicare pay cuts.

It is pure insanity that in this country we are having all these discussions about health care. What is Congress waiting for? Stop dragging your feet and do for this country what is right.

How can you cut our benefits when we have earned them in the many years we have worked hard and paid our taxes? This is something you should be woried about since it is our tax dollars that give you the best of retirement, the best of health care, the best of everything and who is to say you worked any harder then most of us have? You were voted into office to see to your constiuents rights and now that you are in office, seems to me all you care about is what you want and how to line your pockets. Self-centeredness and greed has become too rampant in our goverment, it's time you started recognizing and doing something for the people who put you where you are.

It is interesting that the United States has such a powerful legislation in place that protect the rights of all Americans and yet the essential service of Health Care is not protected in this country. Baby boomers are going to have an incredible impact on the economy as they retire and the impact on the health care system has the potential to overwhelm it. Take preventative measures ... now!

It seems odd to me that we have billions of dollars to fight an unwinable war in Iraq and Afghanistan; pay Pentagon contractors hundreds of times the worth of the smallest tool or part; sell off America's heritage lands to the most influential corporation for timber; fuel or mineral rights at the risk of our ecology and environment and for a pittance of either what the value is of what is taken from the land, or the cost of repairing the damage; and waste millions of dollars on porkbelly legislation each year - but we have to cut MEDICARE???? Get your perspectives and responsibility to Americans straight!

Respecting one's elders is considered an honorable act- what does it say of America as a nation that we would abandon our elderly this way?

Enough is enough stop cutting the benefits!!!! I have watched as my parents savings have dwindled down to NOTHING !!! Due the cost of health care these days even with medicare that they have...These people live on fixed incomes and have saved all their lives in order to retire and then beteween traveling costs to hospitals and the bills and the prescription costs they barely get by..stop cutting medicare the elderly need care after all the years of paying into social security and medicare.Elderly have enough to worry about in regards to their health !!!!most of the retired I know have such outrageous prescription costs as it is !!! they basically cannot AFFORD TO LIVE for goodness sake!!!!
