Don't Allow Global Warming Pollution to Increase for Decades

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) proposed legislation that would postpone meaningful action on global warming pollution for at least twenty years.

The Voinovich bill is dressed up as a way to take action, but in fact is a detailed prescription for doing nothing.

The proposal would take away state authority to control global warming pollution, undermining efforts in dozens of states, including California, Florida and the Northeast members of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which have set ambitious emissions reduction targets. And this is just the beginning.

We need to do everything we can to defeat Senator Voinovich's sham proposal. Email your Senators today.

Dear Senator,

Senator George Voinovich recently proposed legislation that would allow global warming pollution to increase for decades. Even though the proposal is being pitched as a way to address global warming, its real impact would be to block serious global warming action this year.

I urge you to oppose the Voinovich proposal.

The proposal calls for weak, non-binding emissions reduction benchmarks - current levels in 2020 and 1990 levels in 2030 - while providing taxpayer-funded subsidies for favored technologies.

To deny global climate change right now is the worst kind of blindness. The effects are here, now. What we need is bold steps forward, not a stubborn clinging to the bad old ways.

After so many years and decades of harm to the environment, we cannot continue to put off remedial action. Our earth is our only home. It deserves better than Sen. Voinovich's obstructive proposal.

Voluntary compliance and low benchmarks are not going to get us out of this situation. If we get this right, we get to keep a planet that supports human life. There are no loopholes this time. We've got to get it right, and we've got to do it now.

So Sen. Voinovich wants to pass the Big Oil Profit Preservation act. He is a filthy hypocrite for claiming his bill is anything else but deliberately short circuiting any environmental action for an entire generation! This is obscene! Throw all the bums out this November, or it will be too late.
