Don't Allow Global Warming Pollution to Increase for Decades

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) proposed legislation that would postpone meaningful action on global warming pollution for at least twenty years.

The Voinovich bill is dressed up as a way to take action, but in fact is a detailed prescription for doing nothing.

The proposal would take away state authority to control global warming pollution, undermining efforts in dozens of states, including California, Florida and the Northeast members of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which have set ambitious emissions reduction targets. And this is just the beginning.

We need to do everything we can to defeat Senator Voinovich's sham proposal. Email your Senators today.

Dear Senator,

Senator George Voinovich recently proposed legislation that would allow global warming pollution to increase for decades. Even though the proposal is being pitched as a way to address global warming, its real impact would be to block serious global warming action this year.

I urge you to oppose the Voinovich proposal.

The proposal calls for weak, non-binding emissions reduction benchmarks - current levels in 2020 and 1990 levels in 2030 - while providing taxpayer-funded subsidies for favored technologies.

non-binding is another way of saying don't bother - enough of money to the privileged and consequences to the rest

Dear Senator, I oppose the Voinovich bill because it is cloaked in interests other than ensuring that serious and systematic efforts are taken to reduce global warming pollution. While emissions are not the entire story of the global warming problem, they are a piece of it, and in order to stop the negative impact of global warming already taking place on this planet, we must take a multitiered problem solving approach. Emissions reduction is one approach that must not be watered down by business interests. A healthy and productive planet is a right for all of us. Please do not support this bill and take away authority of individual states to control global warming pollution. Thank you. Sincerely, Daryl Gagliano

As a mother of three young children I urge you to support radical changes in our energy use. We need to provide for our planet to heal from all the toxic things we are doing. Please provide alternatives so that we have a place for our grandchildren to thrive. Come on people... let's evolve gracefully!!!
