Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) proposed legislation that would postpone meaningful action on global warming pollution for at least twenty years.
The Voinovich bill is dressed up as a way to take action, but in fact is a detailed prescription for doing nothing.
The proposal would take away state authority to control global warming pollution, undermining efforts in dozens of states, including California, Florida and the Northeast members of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which have set ambitious emissions reduction targets. And this is just the beginning.
We need to do everything we can to defeat Senator Voinovich's sham proposal. Email your Senators today.
We took action on “Don't Allow Global Warming Pollution to Increase for Decades”!

This bill is not a way to do something about global warming. We need immediate action, not recommended "benchmarks" that call for today's levels in twenty years. The levels of green house gasses we currently have is too high and dangerous; today's levels are causing problems and why we have to something about global warming. We need a tough, aggressive programme calling for something along the lines of requiring levels from ten years ago within ten years of today, levels from twenty years ago within twenty years of today, and so on out to fifty or sixty years. Then, we enforce these rules with a three-strike and you are out rule. First offence by a corporation (pumping out too many pounds of pollution), some huge fine, something in the neighbourhood of tens of millions of dollars. Second offence, the corporate person is essentially imprisoned: all its assets are frozen and it is not allowed to do business for eighteen months. Third offence, we invoke the death penalty; the corporate person is killed. The corporation is disbanded and the people on its board are forbidden from ever doing business together with each other again. The company's assets are used to buy out its share-holders. This is not a perfect plan, but at least it is a starting place for real, practical change in the face of global warming.

I believe that global warming is real, some people don't. We all have our own opinion. Even if global warming didn't exist we should be doing something to make our planet a much cleaner and safer place to live. Senator George is like our boss. He may not be the head manager of the chain of companies but he is our boss and we listen to him. His ideas are somewhat important to all of the companies, so then the manager might like what he hears and uses these suggestions. In this case we cannot let Senator George be our boss! He is making a decision that is only going to hurt our planet in the future. Soon our economics system will be so misreable because many resources are going to scarce and lots of people will be out of a job. We need to do something to end global warming even if it's real or not.

This selfish, inconsiderate and pathetic attempt to perpetuate pollution caused by global warming will not be forgotten. Senator Voinovich will be the name that goes down in history as the Senator that ignored the science in exchange for his own self-gratification (or just to pay back a debt) while the world was being devastated. Perhaps you think Jesus is coming, perhaps you just pretend to think Jesus is coming; perhaps you are just somewhat deficient; I don't really care. What I do care about is future generations. Although I have no children and no religion, I do have a brain and a ethics, two things you apparently are lacking. But good news; the whole world will get to see you reap what you have sown whether or not this legislation passes. Get a clue, you work for us not Exxon. The status quo, is no longer the status quo, I'll bet even you can see that is coming.

California is doing excellent work to try and reduce its carbon footprint. Don't take away the rights of the state to try to figure out alternative energy sources and ways to combat global warming.
We need to figure out what alternative energy sources work on a large scale, and the Western states are largely doing that work for us. Don't penalize them for caring about the environment. Support their efforts to make a difference and not destroy the earth that will be left for our children.

The willfully-ignorant GOP obstructionist shills for industry need to get out of the way so decisive action can be taken now. It's already late to deal with global warming. Don't wait until it's TOO late.

We must act quickly and decisively on greenhouse gas emissions, as well as many pollutants affecting human health and that of the ecosystem. Even the most ambitious plans being proposed will likely not be enough. Let the voters be heard for a change! Defeat this bill.
