Don't Allow Global Warming Pollution to Increase for Decades

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) proposed legislation that would postpone meaningful action on global warming pollution for at least twenty years.

The Voinovich bill is dressed up as a way to take action, but in fact is a detailed prescription for doing nothing.

The proposal would take away state authority to control global warming pollution, undermining efforts in dozens of states, including California, Florida and the Northeast members of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which have set ambitious emissions reduction targets. And this is just the beginning.

We need to do everything we can to defeat Senator Voinovich's sham proposal. Email your Senators today.

Dear Senator,

Senator George Voinovich recently proposed legislation that would allow global warming pollution to increase for decades. Even though the proposal is being pitched as a way to address global warming, its real impact would be to block serious global warming action this year.

I urge you to oppose the Voinovich proposal.

The proposal calls for weak, non-binding emissions reduction benchmarks - current levels in 2020 and 1990 levels in 2030 - while providing taxpayer-funded subsidies for favored technologies.

More excuses not to act responsibly so greed of man can prevail while the rest suffer more and more. The globe needs attention yesterday.

I can see out my window across the San Francisco Bay Area. Our air quality is so much worse than it used to be. This is just one small and evident way that there is no time to stall on action towards curbing and hopefully curing the causes of global warming.

Why isn't there a national plan in place for recycling? WE ARE SOOO WASTEFUL! It can't be that hard to mandate states to put a plan in place and implement it. All counties in America should be on top of this already. Instead of charging people for a recycling service, municipalities should be charging people who do not use it.

We need to act now. We cannot study it for years and find out what we studied doesn't exist anymore. It is much worse.
