Don't Allow Global Warming Pollution to Increase for Decades

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) proposed legislation that would postpone meaningful action on global warming pollution for at least twenty years.

The Voinovich bill is dressed up as a way to take action, but in fact is a detailed prescription for doing nothing.

The proposal would take away state authority to control global warming pollution, undermining efforts in dozens of states, including California, Florida and the Northeast members of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which have set ambitious emissions reduction targets. And this is just the beginning.

We need to do everything we can to defeat Senator Voinovich's sham proposal. Email your Senators today.

Dear Senator,

Senator George Voinovich recently proposed legislation that would allow global warming pollution to increase for decades. Even though the proposal is being pitched as a way to address global warming, its real impact would be to block serious global warming action this year.

I urge you to oppose the Voinovich proposal.

The proposal calls for weak, non-binding emissions reduction benchmarks - current levels in 2020 and 1990 levels in 2030 - while providing taxpayer-funded subsidies for favored technologies.

Please take the time and really look at this bill. Please do not send our country back in time regarding this key issue. This is not only an American issue but also a Global issue as well. We not only need to find ways around this issue, but find real alternative solutions. Our economy is in such a way that our citizens need help please dont make them pay for for funded programs which will only benefit the corporations rather than the citizens.

Urgent efforts are needed to reduce greenhouse gases. There is no time to delay any process for this cause, not even by a year.

Dear Senator, The more research I read about global warming and its effects on our climate, when combined with the rise in disastrous weather-related catastrophes, the more I believe that smarter, cleaner technology needs to be developed immediately. Senator George Voinovich's proposed bill would do exactly the opposite, and therefore place not only our great nation but the entire Earth in jeopardy. I ask you not support this feeble excuse of a call for reform, and to support future realistically-green inspired proposals. Sincerely, Shaina Bazyk

We have but the one planet. Don't let greed now destroy the chance for our children and grandchildren to experience a stable climate, extensive bio-diversity and a chance to prosper

Our world is groaning under the combined weight of global pollution, it is very, very sick. A short term gain financially at the cost of continuing life on Earth doesn't seem thoughtful or helpful. Rethink your real cost

One way to look at the global warming problem is this: it will be less costly if we do something now and find out global warming was not happening than it will be if we do nothing and find out it has been happening.

What more disasters on Planet Earth does it take for the Senate to promote legislation which combats global warming and ensures a safe environment for future generations? Clearly it must oppose legislation which continues to undermine the environment for the good of the wealthy.
