The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most important onshore denning habitats for America's threatened polar bears. Known as America's Serengeti, this stunning refuge teems with wildlife such as caribou, snow fox and millions of migratory birds.
But with oil prices skyrocketing, the Bush administration and Big Oil are pushing harder than ever to drill in this special place. Even the Bush administration's recent decision to protect polar bears under the Endangered Species Act includes provisions to allow drilling in polar bear habitat such as the Refuge.
Take action now -- tell your Senators to reject drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and support permanent protections for this special place.

S.2316, sponsored by Senator Joseph Lieberman, would permanently protect the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- the Refuge's biological heart -- as a wilderness area with permanent protections. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is currently protected from harmful new drilling operations. But year after year, big oil companies and their allies relentlessly lobby for new drilling in this special place. This year is no exception, and rising oil prices have brought renewed calls to open up this special place. President Bush has even included revenues from Arctic Refuge drilling in his latest budget.

Maybe we should look back on history and see why the big oil companies are wanting to drill for more oil here in the US/Canada and offshore in the Gulf. Could it be that they decided that it was cheaper to purchase oil from then unformed OPEC thanto continue drilling here? Now they want the people to believe that there is a vast amount of oil under this polar ice cap, and if they start drilling the gas prices will come down. Get a clue people the oil companies are trying to use the bait and switch smoke and mirrors cons. And of course if they discover there isn't enough oil under the polar cap, the irreparable damage will have already been done and they will walk away.

What do you think you are doing? Drilling at the North Pole! What is wrong with you people! You should be protecting this beautiful ecosystem, not drilling the heck out of it!! Conserving the beautiful environment there, plus its most common inhabitant, the polar bear, is more important than anything else! If you care for Mother Earth, stop drilling in the most fragile parts of her, and start preserving her for future generations!!
