Reject President Bush's Anti-Choice Nominee, Robert Conrad

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Do you remember Richard Honaker? He was President Bush's pick for a lifetime appointment to a federal district court who tried to outlaw abortion three times in Wyoming. Now, Bush is at it again! This time, he and his allies in the Senate are pushing for a new anti-choice nominee as judge on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals: Robert Conrad. Robert Conrad has called Planned Parenthood a "radical, pro-abortion fringe group" that "promotes a radical abortion agenda." What's more, from 1983 to 1986, Conrad served on the board of directors for a so-called "crisis pregnancy center" that provided medically inaccurate information about pregnancy, contraception and abortion. Clearly, he isn't fair-minded – and he doesn't deserves a lifetime appointment as a federal judge! Urge your senators to reject the nomination of Robert Conrad today.

Dear Senator [Name],

As your constituent, I urge you to reject Robert Conrad, President Bush's nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Conrad has a clear anti-choice record. In 1988, Conrad wrote an op-ed piece for The Charlotte Observer in which he labeled Planned Parenthood a "radical, pro-abortion fringe group" that "promotes a radical abortion agenda."

From 1983 to 1986, Conrad served on the board of directors for the Charlottesville Pregnancy Center, an organization seemingly modeled as a so-called "crisis pregnancy center" (CPC). Many CPCs intentionally misinform and mislead women who are seeking pregnancy-related assistance by providing medically inaccurate information about pregnancy, contraception, or abortion. In fact, the Charlottesville Pregnancy Center's website includes anti-choice propaganda like, "Remember that abortion doesn't erase a mistake - it only adds new ones."

[Your comment here]

I urge you to carefully review Conrad's record and oppose this nomination should it reach the Senate floor for a vote.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

I had an abortion 30 yrs. ago , and I would do it again under those circumstances. Abortion should NOT be a political issue..and I will NEVER vote for an anti-abortion candidate!

I've had enough of these right-wing conservatives eroding hard won rights in this country. Please don't add to the problem by confirming Justic Conrad.

I find it worrisome that our system allows the President to nominate judges to custom fit his own agenda. Clearly something our founding fathers overlooked. Judges should be NEUTRAL. Anybody that thinks Planned Parenthood is a "radical fringe group," is obviously radical himself. Radical RIGHT.

Robert Conrad has proven himself to be the opposite of an impartial, fair-minded person and he doesn't deserve a lifetime appointment as a federal judge. Please keep this man off the bench for the good of the United States of America.

Resistance and hatred belong outside the courts, not presiding over them. It's not his place to push his will down our throats when the laws are in place that say otherwise. Conrad is a contradiction to fairness and should be rejected post haste.

I absolutely believe that a woman's body is her own. She must be free to decide what is best for her. We do not live in a dictatorship where the dictator decides all things! Please reject Bush's nominee to the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Robert Conrad. He has a radical history of anti-choice.

Legally, people have the right to choose what they will do with their own bodies. This is a right that should continue to be legal for women who have to make a decision of whether to go through with a pregnancy or have an abortion. Personally, I feel that no man has the right to make judgements or pass laws pertaining to abortion since they cannot create a life. It should always be the choice of the woman!

When will this end ? It shouldn't matter what the President or anyone else in government thinks is right, be it pro-life, or pro-choice. The choice belongs with women. We are the only ones who can get pregnant and should have the right to control our own bodies & our own lives. Unless & until our government and others who would like to promote pro-life standards, shows concern over what happens to a child once its born and are willing to make sure that child has a good home, decent food & medical care as well as a good education they have no right what so ever regarding pregnancy. It is simply none of their business. I urge you to carefully review Conrad's record and oppose this nomination should it reach the Senate floor for a vote.

Please do not appoint justices with anti-choice agendas. Since judges are there for life all judges should be scrutinized completely.

The Supreme Court is already out of balance and we need to restore the balance. Conrad by his own words has established his extreme attitude to family planning and people's right to choice. He is too extreme in his beliefs to be a good choice for the Court. The majority of people in this country support choice and family planning even when some of those choices are for abortion.

We need balance in our supreme court. I don't want another neo-conservative in this position.

Government is just like a bird, if it doesn't have a left AND a right wing, it can't go ANYWHERE... We've had so many right wingers, how about a little balance? The world isn't flat, global warming is real, and evolution is a proven fact of science.. Robert Conrad is COMPLETELY biased.... He's unacceptable... Don't you think?
