Protect the Spectacular Wilderness of the Rio Grande

Target: Jeff Bingaman, Senator
Sponsored by: Care2
America's wilderness is being degraded from oil drilling, and huge chunks of public land are being sold off to private interests, never to be enjoyed by the public again.

Americans need to do everything they can to preserve some of the last great places for wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation.

Luckily, there is still a chance to protect the legacy of the spectacular Rio Grande Gorge.

A proposed 303,000-acre national conservation area would protect the Gorge and nearby land from oil drilling. This range is critical to the survival of large numbers of elk, mule deer and other wildlife. Wild trout also need the clean Rio Grande water and uninterrupted habitat the designation would provide.

You can help keep public lands in public hands!

Sign the petition urging New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman to introduce the legislation to protect the Rio Grande Gorge!

Dear Senator Bingaman,

As a conservation-minded citizen and lover of the outdoors, I am writing to voice my support for your swift introduction of the El Rio Grande del Norte National Conservation Area legislation.

[Your comment here]

Large numbers of elk, mule deer, wild trout and other wildlife depend on the Rio Grande Gorge for survival. Please move quickly to help protect this area from oil drilling and other private interests.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Individual and corporate greed keep chipping away at our treasured natural resources. We need to start drawing the line and saying, "enough is enough." We need the vision to protect these treasures for the future generations.
