Say No to President Bush's Extreme Federal Judicial Nominee

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Richard Honaker, a former Wyoming state representative, is President Bush's pick for a lifetime appointment as a federal judge. Honaker is one of Bush's most anti-choice nominees to date. He has spent his career fighting to deny women access to safe, legal reproductive-health services. And now Bush has nominated him for a lifetime appointment as a federal judge.

At this pivotal time in history, it's so important that an open and fair-minded federal judge be appointed - not someone bent on interfering with women's personal choices. Send your message telling the Senate that Bush's anti-choice nominee, Richard Honaker, is too extreme for the federal bench!

Dear Senator [Name],

As a constituent, I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the nomination of Richard Honaker to the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming.

Honaker has spent his career fighting to deny women access to safe, legal reproductive-health services. He publicly and actively opposes abortion, saying it is "wrong, and no one should have the right to do what is wrong," and tried three times to ban abortion in Wyoming.

By nominating Richard Honaker to a lifetime judgeship, President Bush has shown yet again that he is totally out of step with the views of mainstream America. Honaker led the push for a ballot measure to ban abortion, which Wyoming voters resoundingly rejected. Now I urge you to do the same with this nomination.
We signed the “Say No to President Bush's Extreme Federal Judicial Nominee” petition!

In a society of real Justice people in posts of such responsibility should at least be wise, tolerant adults.

As a women, I strongly disagree with this; how could anyone in their right mind appoint a judge against womens rights?? What century IS this???? I say that this was a majorly unfair choice on Bush's part.

A woman's right to choose is the law of the land. These end-around tactics are nothing more than the subterfuge they appear to be. Republicans are fond of loudly complaining about so-called liberal "activist" judges who interpret the constitution for their own ideologies. This is an example of that. Enough. I say NO!

No, because the decision I make should only have to be between my God and my conscience. God will be the only one I will to aswer to. Leave God's work to him/her.

No, because any individual should be able to make such an enormous choice by themselves and not be ruled by a law.

We need to go in a better direction. We need more judges and appointes who will do what the people ask and not those who will abuse their trust

The current Administration has abused judicial appointments throughout its term in order to serve its own beliefs. The freedom of choice and the right to govern my body is between myself and my maker - a religious issue which the Constitution prohibits being constrained. We have wasted millions of dollars in this country attempting to legislate this can of worms instead of acknowledging that it is a religious issue and the State has no business with it. At every step in this ill-advised move to legislate this very personal issue, new cans of worms are opened, i.e., at what point does the fetus become an individual with rights to protection from "murder" and, if an individual what about all the frozen embryos' rights to inherit? etc., etc. Enough already! Get government out of the bedroom and leave it up to people to justify themselves to their maker!

I as a woman of the 50% population has every right for freedom of choice. If there's a person that has the smarts what goes on a girl's life, any judge should understand, and weigh out the options what's best for the mother . Even parents know what's best for their daughter given that choice

the choice of many women should be their own when it comes to health questions. Don't put anyone into power to change that.

a judge who is for forfiting the rights of women who are half of this country's population should not be even considered a nominee. A women's choice should be her own.

No judges should even be appointed by a politician, and there should be a term limit and we should be able to remove them if they misuse their power or are biased in any way.

Richard Honaker should not be considered a choice for President Bush. Honaker is a sexist man. He isn't pro choice. He believes a woman doesn't have a right to make her own choices. Do not elect Honaker.
