Say No to President Bush's Extreme Federal Judicial Nominee

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
Richard Honaker, a former Wyoming state representative, is President Bush's pick for a lifetime appointment as a federal judge. Honaker is one of Bush's most anti-choice nominees to date. He has spent his career fighting to deny women access to safe, legal reproductive-health services. And now Bush has nominated him for a lifetime appointment as a federal judge.

At this pivotal time in history, it's so important that an open and fair-minded federal judge be appointed - not someone bent on interfering with women's personal choices. Send your message telling the Senate that Bush's anti-choice nominee, Richard Honaker, is too extreme for the federal bench!

Dear Senator [Name],

As a constituent, I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the nomination of Richard Honaker to the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming.

Honaker has spent his career fighting to deny women access to safe, legal reproductive-health services. He publicly and actively opposes abortion, saying it is "wrong, and no one should have the right to do what is wrong," and tried three times to ban abortion in Wyoming.

By nominating Richard Honaker to a lifetime judgeship, President Bush has shown yet again that he is totally out of step with the views of mainstream America. Honaker led the push for a ballot measure to ban abortion, which Wyoming voters resoundingly rejected. Now I urge you to do the same with this nomination.
We signed the “Say No to President Bush's Extreme Federal Judicial Nominee” petition!

The safety of women is at stake when one is discussing their choice to terminate a pregnancy. We know how to not get pregnant. We know how to avoid murdering our babies in toilets. We sometimes make decisions about our lives and the lives of our families. We are not evil and should not be made to go underground into dangerous territory while we are living our lives. It is simple: not all of us can decide to keep pregnancies. Our lives should not be at stake any longer around the problem of pregnancies, please.

Why does anyone think they have a right to tell me what I can do with or to my body!! If this man is confirmed then he takes away a woman's right to choice what she can do with and to her body.

Women are the only individuals that should make the choice that is right for them. No one should take that right from them.

Let's not let our Government bring us back to the "dark ages" when women were not given choices. I can remember women being "butchered" because there was no legal way to terminate an unwanted pregnancy for rape or other reasons.

Pro-Chioce people, the world has gone crazy enough. Poverty, little to no education, a horrible economy, disease, crime and voilence is what these innocent children will be born into. I think it is more of a sacrifice to follow through with an EARLY TERM abortion than to bring another innocent child into the world. Let's preach education and get women onto the road of being self supportive and successfull so any child she may bear later in life will have a fighting chnace at being a productive citizen. Take away womens rights.... they will still have abortions. You outlaw drugs and there is still an epidemic, you take guns away from the criminals and they still get them, you preach no illegal immigrants and we still have them. Where this is a will there will always be a way. Tackle partial birth abortions that deserves more attention!!!

Charater is shown through the choices we make, not those made for us. All women deserve to make their own choices.

We have already lost so many of our Civil Liberties with this administration. It is imperative any new nominees put into place will view the constitution as sacred and do all that he can to protect our rights.

We have to get the ultra-religious right out of the government. There is no place for them there, especially the Supreme Court, where they are expected to rule for life. That needs to be changed while you're at it. Some people are brain-washed and only consider one belief system, while there is much diverse thinking out there, and many different cultures. Ultimately, it all boils down to the same thing. Jesus, Mohammed, Ala, all preached the same things...love and peace. I'm sure they are apalled at what men have turned their words into. Why are there more people killed in the name of religion than anything else? What hypocrites these holier-than-thou types are. It is up to the individual and their God to determine what is right for them and their unborn child. When it is known a child will be born into a violent, hopeless, malnutritioned or disease ridden life, is it right for them to be born, should be the question? The government has authorized the killing and maiming of thousands, if not millions, of innocents that were or are living on this planet. Why is there no outcry against this??? These people are pretending to care about a fetus that cannot sustain life on its own. Truly, do you believe they actually care? A partial birth abortion is cruel, period. That is different. They say there is not going to be enough food or water to feed the growing population, yet the pharmaceutical and medical industries keep giving women fertility drugs that are causing, not only multiple births, as in six or seven at a time, but many deformities. Nominated representatives, please do the right thing and keep ALL extremists out of our government. Thank you.

This nominee is unworthy of the lofty position being offered, by proof of his past actions and the opinions he's voiced.

The majority of men and women in the U.S. want to make personal decisions themselves. It's that simple.

First -Reproductive Rights, -Mandatory Cesareans, -Hysterectomies...pretty soon women won't even be "allowed" to bear children at all. Why can't real issues like domestic and global economic policy become the focus of our officials. In my opinion they should all GET TO WORK.

Women should have the right to choose. If any women should be told what to do, it should be the young girls who have babies just so that they can get on welfare, and keep on having babies by different men.

Too extreme. Doesn't exhibit a profile which reflects an intelligent look at the constitution.
