Help Katrina Victims Get the Medical Care They Need Now!
Target:U.S. Senate, House of Representatives Sponsored by:Consumers Union
As the hurricane victims struggle to rebuild their lives, one of their most immediate needs is access to medical care. Congress has the power to help the children, elderly, sick or people who have lost their jobs to get the health care they need by temporarily covering them under the federal Medicaid program -- without red-tape and hassles.
Under the current proposal, Katrina survivors with incomes below the federal poverty level could get coverage through a temporary five-month program with a possible extension. Congress is expected to vote very soon on this important emergency health-care relief measure.
ThatÂ’s why we need your help today! The Senate has developed a bill that assures comprehensive coverage without red tape, but the House version may limit access to the program for hundreds of thousands of people. Click here for a detailed analysis of the two plans.
Don't let Congress water down this desperately needed relief! Act now by sending a letter to your representatives in both houses of Congress in support of temporary enrollment of hurricane victims in Medicaid.
We signed the “Help Katrina Victims Get the Medical Care They Need Now!” petition!

This should be a unanimous vote based on the obvious need of the people who have already endured so much!

This nation must help it poor and underpriviledged citizens in a manner that shows true compassion without the red tape and bureaucracy that so defines the US. This is crtically important to these people!

I truly believe that Katrina has caused more suffering to Americans than any other natural disaster in the past 100 years. It is the U.S. government's duty to act now to alleviate the suffering of its citizens. By allowing the survivors of Katrina access to Medicaid, at least temporarily, we can go a long way to begin to rebuild what was lost to these unfortunate Americans.

The poor were disproportionately affected by Katrina, and others lost everything. They desparatley need medical, including mental health, coverage. Please vote to provide Medicaid coverage.

We as a strong nation must provide for the less fortunate. It is the humane thing to do...not only that it is God's law to care for the needy. Thank you for your help.

The U.S. is the only industrialized country that does NOT provide medical coverage for EVERYONE -- a basic human right! At least, the helpless victims of Katrina should get this coverage. The Bush Administration has shown itself before the entire world as the soulless, heartless, NON-compassionate entity that it really is. Bush and his cronies are laughing while people starve and die! At least provide medical help; even too little, too late, is better than nothing.

The citizens of Louisianna, Mississippi, and Alabama, have all suffered greatly; whether they left voluntarily, or were evacuated in the aftermath. Most if not all, of these US citizens, have been effected in some way. Either they have lost loved ones, pets, clothing, cars, every day essentials, or their homes, even the people who live above the poverty level are not going to be able to afford to pay for medical care when they need to set up their lives and homes and replace the majority of their possessions. As a person who is living above the poverty level, I barely make ends meet. I cannot afford to pay doctor's bills now, much less if I had to completely rebuild my life, find and make a new home for myself, get a new job and replace everything I had lost.
I understand that these survivors will be receiving money, clothing, and housing, from FEMA and various other organizations; however, that money will only cover the emergency basics.
As Congressmen, you should take a look around think of what your priorities would be, if the only thing that you had left was this petition and the clothing on your backs. How much would it cost you to replace everything you currently own????
United We Stand was a statement we made a little over three years ago. These citizens are just as much a part of that as you or I are, the difference is THEY HAVE NOTHING...they desperately need our help and understanding.

Because i believe every needs help. I dont just think they need help, it has been a big impact on their lives. Although many of us have not experience this, we should give simpathy towards thoes that has experienced such trajic moment. I believe we should help them also because many people have lost their lives during Huricane Katrina, many lost their son, wife, and parents.

the people of the united states are outraged over seeing a coopted congress not stand up and face the errors made by the present administration. we know that firstly a stolen presidency has coopted our civil liberties and are fighting an unjust and unnecessary war, and really not putting their priorities to real national security, masked by corporate dominace. for shame congress.
