Ensure Children Have Safe and Healthy Homes

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) was passed in 1974 because of increasing public awareness of the need to ensure the safety and welfare of children. CAPTA provides federal money to state and local communities like yours for programs and services to prevent abuse, protect children and strengthen families.
Each year, almost 1 million American children experience abuse and neglect. Of these children, 60 percent suffer neglect, 19 percent physical abuse, 10 percent sexual abuse, and 7 percent emotional maltreatment. All of these forms of abuse can have a lifelong psychological and physical impact on a child. And shockingly, approximately 1400 children are killed each year from abuse, most of whom are under the age of one.
Every five years, CAPTA gets reauthorized. This year it is up for review again. President Bush has already cut many important human service programs in this year's budget (including domestic violence and juvenile justice funds). We need your help to ensure these cuts do not affect the safety of children.
Please ask Congress to not only maintain current funding levels, but to increase funding to keep up with today's economy, so that all children can live in safe and healthy homes.

Child Abuse is the worst thing a child can go tru, it needs to stop, for the child cannot prtect thier selves they need someones help,

Someone needs to defend the defenseless. I also think that you need a program that will prevent certain individuals from becoming parents. After all, this government does make a point of telling us what we can/cannot put into our own bodies.

It is well known that children who have been abused often turn out to be child abusers when they get older. The physical and emotional pain abused children suffer is terrible. It interferes with their ability to trust, to learn in school, to develop healthy relationships with other people, to develop into a healthy productive member of society. All of their energy goes to protecting themselves from further abuse, and to somehow make a way in what they often perceive as a dangerous and hostile world. They are often unable to take advantage of opportunities for additional schooling and training, for many types of employment that require trust and openness. What a waste of human beings. We can do better.

Our children are the future. Childen need a healthy, safe environment to grow and prospore. We need to break the cycle of violence, buse and neglect in the home. Please don't turn your back on another important program that an help our children.

Child abuse is very very vert wrong. Children everyday get abused and killed beacause of child abuse! There are way too many sick people out there that abuse children. Children of ALL ages are special and delicate. I just can't imagine even harming a child. What if it was your child or a child you know were being abused? You wouldn't like that would you? Please please please may we have programs to prevent child abouse? We serouisly need them.

Many children are born into horrendous situations. I adopted such a child. It is important that there is proper funding for identification, and fostercare or adoption of these children, with programs to help parents become healed and safe.
