Say No to Corn-Fed Beef, Save the Planet

Target: You!
Sponsored by: Care2

Nearly 100% of beef sold in grocery stores is from corn-fed cows. But feeding corn to cows is cruel and is detrimental to our health and the environment.

Cows are meant to digest grass, so corn diets lead to extreme digestive discomfort, including bloating to the point of potential suffocation, and weak immune systems. Corn-fed cows live on cramped feedlots, unable to move.

Feeding corn to cows also breeds bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics and digestive acids in humans. Corn production and waste from corn-fed animals are a huge source of greenhouse gas, water and air pollution.

Instead, stores should sell beef from grass-fed cows who roam free their whole lives, eliminating the ethical, health, and environmental problems corn feeding operations incur.

If consumers create a demand for more sustainable grass-fed beef, producers will listen.

I pledge to promote humane, sustainable beef production by:

  • When purchasing beef, choosing grass-fed beef whenever possible*

  • Requesting local grocery stores and restaurants to provide grass-fed beef

  • Educating myself and others about the differences between grass-fed and corn-fed beef

(*If your local grocers and restaurants refuse to purchase grass-fed beef, you can find it online.)
We signed the “Say No to Corn-Fed Beef, Save the Planet” petition!

Please feed cows grass! It's healthier for the cows, and healthier for the humans that eat them. Not only is their meat richer in vitamins; they also don't need to be pumped full of antibiotics because they don't get sick from eating foods they're not supposed to eat! Know that society is realizing what you're doing to farm animals and it won't be tolerated any longer. I think all factory farming is disgraceful. If people are going to eat meat, the animals should be raised free-range and be fed what God intended them to be fed, and they should be killed as humanely as possible. Why shouldn't a cow live out it's life as it was meant to, as opposed to being stuck in a pen with other cows not being able to move around and eating some of the worst stuff on the planet? The picture at the top of this petition is a picture that we should see more often-with all animals

I oppose it on principle. Personally, I am a vegetarian, and I wish everyone were, but if they can't take that step, at least they can oppose wasting grains on cows. Let the cows eat grass -- it's better for them, anyway!

I'm glad I saw this information. I didn't know about feeding corn to cows. This definitely should stop.

It is well known that feeding cattle grass is better for all concerned. Vegetarianism is way to go.

I'm going to quit eating beef as the cost is getting out of control. Besides, most beef is tough and takes forever to chew. Grass is the natural food for cows. It seems that whenever humans get involved in the raising of animals for food, they alter the animals normal diet for cheaper food to make a profit. Corn is not as cheap as it used to be with the farmers selling their corn to make fuel, which is also a waste.

I have cattle of my own, and I know feeding corn is bad for them and not cost-effective anyway.

I am a vegan. I do not eat meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. I do not use any animal product or any product that was tested on animals. I do not use animals as forms of entertainment. It's plain and simple; meat is murder. It is torture and it is suicide. Animals are not ours to eat. Eating meat just isn't fair.

I have read the book The Omnivores Dilemma and learned that corn was never meant to be eaten by cows. Cows should be grass fed. Feed lots are polluting the air, the soil, and water. Corn fed cows produce more methane (they fart).
