Suspend NFL Quarterback Michael Vick for Dogfighting!

Target: Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner
Sponsored by: Humane Society of the United States
Last week, a federal grand jury indicted NFL star quarterback Michael Vick and three cohorts on felony dogfighting charges.

The abuses described in the indictment are almost beyond belief, and include a report of Vick being consulted before the execution of the losing dog "by wetting the dog down with water and electrocuting the animal."

The indictment also describes "the execution of approximately eight dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions ... by methods including hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick should be suspended from the NFL immediately!

The NFL expressed “disappointment” and said, “We believe that all concerned should allow the legal process to determine the facts.” That’s just not good enough. The alleged acts were not petty or harmless; they were nothing short of gruesome and barbaric.

Sign the petition to the NFL today, and tell the league to suspend Michael Vick!
deadline: 7-17-2008

Dear NFL Commissioner Goodell,

Dogfighting is cruel and criminal, and football players must be held accountable like anyone else. Please suspend Vick immediately - anything less would reflect very badly on your judgment, and on the league.

People who torture and harm animals have no conscience. Michael Vick is a role model to young children and if the NFL allows him to continue playing they are sending out the wrong message.

This man should spend the rest of his life in jail for what he did to those innocent animals.

This man is a criminal. I think the NFL would want to disassociate themselves from this huge embarrassment. Why should this man be allowed to play and bring in an enormous salary? He is a terrible role model for children and America. Let him reap what he was sowed.

Fighting dogs is wrong. Many dogs die this way.. and then executing the dogs who do the right thing and DONT fight when told to? Aggressive animals aren't cool.. I hope an aggressive dog turns on him.. let him see how it feels.

Professional athletes stand as role models and heroes for children and youth internationally. The killing and torture of animals for personal profit does not set an appropriate example of behaviour. Let's see the NFL send a message about what a hero should look like.

It astounds me the lengths to which the human race will go for money and thrills. Not only to kill, but slowly torturing defenseless, innocent creatures. My question is, if someone is willing to do these atrocious acts to a vulnerable creature for entertainment, what will he/she do to a fellow human being?

It doesn't matter how many times i have read the charges against Mike Vick, it never gets easier to read. The nausea has not subsided nor has the tears. Time and again studies have shown that people who so willing cause harm to animals are very likely to eventually hurt another human. Outside of that these poor animals were defenseless and the evilness of Mike Vick prayed on this, how long until he prays on the weaknesses of a woman, child or any other human being. He is disgusting and should rot in jail, maybe they'll start betting on him in prison in fights to the death.

Suspended? How about wet him down and electrocute HIM? This idiot has no respect for anything, animal or human, not only is he responsible for an act of pure cruelty, he has also let his fans down and does not deserve to remain a part of the NFL.

Vick's actions were barbaric to say the least! Anyone who has such little respect for a helpless animal will not, in most probability, have any more respect for any human over whom he has control. A person of his stature in the NFL would be looked up to or idolized by a certain percentage of the population -- hardly an example of human decency I would want my kids to be around!! Please -- have the courage to do the right thing -- SUSPEND VICK!!

Anyone in the public eye should be responsible for his or her behavior. We should never accept behavior that shows no respect for life-whether human or precious animals that can't defend themselves against abuse.

He should be treated the same way he treated those dogs, and really the NFL is going to lose a lot of viewers because of the fact someone did this if they don't ban him. I know I will stop watching the NFl just for this reason.

Enough is enough. This is 2007 and this issue shouldnt have to be anymore. Animals are God's creatures also. Mr. Vick should be treated like any other man who participated in this. His job or social status should have no bearing on this at all. Todays society worship's the athlete. Why? What are they so worshipeed for? They are just men not heros. Mr. Vick must be suspened immediately! If our society worships these men so much he shouldn't be for any reason any longer. he should be punshied. If not it tells society the wrong message. Imagine the children having him as an idiol. Is that what we want our kids to stive to be like? No more! This is the line that must not be crossed for any person , amount of money or status.

Vick should be BANNED from ALL sports not just football. He was a role model for kids & adults alike & then he went & did this & GOT caught. He is even worse than other sport figures who have been banned.

Vick and others are not sorry at all for what they did. They are sorry they got caught. If you think they only killed 8 dogs your dreaming. He was involved with dog fighting for 8 or so years.Get a calculator. And he HAS NOT found Jesus Thats to garner public sympathy from his attorney. Give me a break....Craig Mosher

Michael Vick deserves to be removed from the NFL forever. Who would want someone like that as a teammate or in their league? I hope he gets what's coming to him in prison...

Michael Vick has demonstrated the worst case of animal abuse that I have ever seen in my 40 years on this earth. This person needs to repent and pay dearly for his crime. He is truly the animal in all of this. He is beyond rehabilitation and should be trown in jail. I would boycot the NFL if he was allowed back to play.

He deserves/deserved to be suspended being involved in such a cruel, archaic activity. This man is meant to be a role model for youngsters. He should be ashamed of his behavior & his actions.

I have been a breeder of Bull Terriers for approximately 20 yrs and have been fighting this kind of abuse ever since. A human being who can perform such heinous acts on a helpless animal is a danger to society. Michael Vick is a dangerous individual. Put him in jail and get this man some counselling so he does not reach his full savage potential while remaining at large in society. If his behavior is not a sign of a serious mental condition, I don't know what is.

I work as an animal health tech at an emergency animal hospital in a major city, and I have never seen an animal as badly injured or treated as what was going on. This goes beyond animal cruelty. This man clearly views animals are completely expendable and I believe that he should be not only removed from the NFL, but jailed, fined, never allowed to own or handle animals ever again, and his property (should he ever have any in the future) be inspected regularily by the SPCA. This man is SICK, and disgusts me.
