Stop the hypocrisy: tell leaders of the religious right to practice what they preach

Target: Ralph Reed, James Dobson, & Lou Sheldon
Sponsored by: Care2
For years, the leaders of the Religious Right have attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state. They claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions they deemed immoral.

Now it turns out that leaders of the Religious Right are knee-deep in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, theyve been caught in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by the indicted lobbyist.

Their high ground has been washed away. Former Christian Coalition Director Ralph Reed made millions from Indian gambling interests, rallying religious conservatives to oppose competing casinos. James Dobson of Focus on the Family recorded anti-gambling ads that a casino-operating Indian tribe paid to air. And Lou Sheldons Traditional Values Coalition was paid $25,000 by online gambling outfit eLottery to lobby congress on its behalf.

Its time to stop the hypocrisy. Millions of Americans have taken their moral cues from these men, only to find out now that they are in bed with the very interests theyve earned their living condemning.

Send a letter to Ralph Reed, James Dobson, and Lou Sheldon and tell them to start practicing what they preach.

For years, youve attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the most central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state.

Youve always claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions you deemed immoral. But your high ground is washed away. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, youre caught knee-deep in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

It's time to stop telling others how to act, and start practicing what you preach.

End your hypocrisy.

Sincerely,

I think the genuinely religious individual is going to feel quite betrayed by the actions of these few religious leaders selling their faith to disreputable causes.

As a Christian I think it is deplorable that you attempt to dictate moral values and then make money off the very interests you call sinful. I invite you to meet Jesus Christ as your Savior.

It's not just what you say, which is often deceitful and hate-based, but it's what you do. Just ask yourself: What can I do to gain my lord's affection?

Come out from behind Christ and take responsibility. Low-life like you are giving Christianity a bad name. I would guess that Christ might not like that.

Equal rights extend to all members of a population. Your religious doctrine should support this ideal, not condemn it.

I completely agree with #74!! I might add that I'm tired of your better than thou additude. If someone doesn't agree with your views we are immoral and not God fearing people. We believe as much in God as you do we just don't use his name to get what we want.

Last I checked, Jesus avoided the Pharisees (read hypocrites) and taught his followers to do the same. There is a strong moral lesson here...one that you would do best to heed.

Americans are sick of the corruption that begins at the White House and trickles down to every part of government. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds beginning with "separation of church and state". Only when it benefits you!

Just as the taliban has highjacked and disgraced Islam, so the so called Christian Right is a disgrace to the teachings of Jesus. "Father forgive them.,,,,!"
