Stop the hypocrisy: tell leaders of the religious right to practice what they preach

Target: Ralph Reed, James Dobson, & Lou Sheldon
Sponsored by: Care2
For years, the leaders of the Religious Right have attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state. They claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions they deemed immoral.

Now it turns out that leaders of the Religious Right are knee-deep in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, theyve been caught in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by the indicted lobbyist.

Their high ground has been washed away. Former Christian Coalition Director Ralph Reed made millions from Indian gambling interests, rallying religious conservatives to oppose competing casinos. James Dobson of Focus on the Family recorded anti-gambling ads that a casino-operating Indian tribe paid to air. And Lou Sheldons Traditional Values Coalition was paid $25,000 by online gambling outfit eLottery to lobby congress on its behalf.

Its time to stop the hypocrisy. Millions of Americans have taken their moral cues from these men, only to find out now that they are in bed with the very interests theyve earned their living condemning.

Send a letter to Ralph Reed, James Dobson, and Lou Sheldon and tell them to start practicing what they preach.

For years, youve attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the most central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state.

Youve always claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions you deemed immoral. But your high ground is washed away. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, youre caught knee-deep in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

It's time to stop telling others how to act, and start practicing what you preach.

End your hypocrisy.

Sincerely,

I haven't heard the hate-mongers from the South stating their ridiculous notion that God is punishing America for her sins lately. Perhaps the reason is, all of Mother Nature's wrath has been based in the middle of the red states?

Of course they're hypocrites. They have been misrepresenting teachings from their holy text to control the masses. It never worked - not even during the times of Christ. Isn't that why the bible was written in the first place - to warn against hypocrisy. Christ hung with the lepers and prostitutes, not the wealthy finger pointing elites. Scum!

Leave people alone! A women has a right to have an abortion if she wants it. A gay couple has as much right to happiness as a hetro couple. Get off your high horses and stop telling people how to live their lives! Live yours and leave the rest of us alone!

Appearently you all are taking a lesson from the Romans, that it's more important to cast lots than to do what the Master asks. We the people don't buy into that abundance spiel ether, a soul gets his just rewards in heaven not here on earth.

It's time you realize that Christianity starts with CHRIST. Stop playing games with the strictures of the Old Testament making them suit your narrow and controlling views that gain you the mistaken respect of the fearful and bring you ill-gotten gain from the backs of the downtrodden. Come instead to the love, light, peace, reason, tolerance and acceptance of Christ, not for your personal well-being, but that of all.

You pretend to not descrimate against anyone, that god loves everyone, but you discrimate against women, you bash gay's who are also god's children. You are sad excuses for pretending to do god's work when all you are interested in is the money you can collect and to inflame riots in people by your persistent persecutions by only reading the bible parts that suit you.

The only "Christians" I ever met were a pastor of a southern baptist church his family and most of the people who attended that church. Other than that the rest of them are hypocrites just like you with George W. being the worst.

The high moral ground you and so many of the Religious Right have claimed as your own is startting to crumble beneath your feet. Your shame is showing like red panties under a white skirt.

The Religious Right: corrupt, biased against women and minorities, embedded with the polititians for their own benefit, liers and profiteeres from illegal money. That's why I left all kinds of religious ties behind. I am more spiritual now that I do not belong to any church, sick and tired of their dellusions and lies. If only more people stop believing in what they preach and start believing in themselves, the whole world would shift in another direction. The Religious Right and Polititians...
