Stop the hypocrisy: tell leaders of the religious right to practice what they preach

Target: Ralph Reed, James Dobson, & Lou Sheldon
Sponsored by: Care2
For years, the leaders of the Religious Right have attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state. They claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions they deemed immoral.

Now it turns out that leaders of the Religious Right are knee-deep in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, theyve been caught in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by the indicted lobbyist.

Their high ground has been washed away. Former Christian Coalition Director Ralph Reed made millions from Indian gambling interests, rallying religious conservatives to oppose competing casinos. James Dobson of Focus on the Family recorded anti-gambling ads that a casino-operating Indian tribe paid to air. And Lou Sheldons Traditional Values Coalition was paid $25,000 by online gambling outfit eLottery to lobby congress on its behalf.

Its time to stop the hypocrisy. Millions of Americans have taken their moral cues from these men, only to find out now that they are in bed with the very interests theyve earned their living condemning.

Send a letter to Ralph Reed, James Dobson, and Lou Sheldon and tell them to start practicing what they preach.

For years, youve attacked the freedom of women to control their own bodies, waged war on gay marriage, and fought to erode one of the most central tenets of our Constitution: the separation between church and state.

Youve always claimed the moral high ground, asserting the right to tell people how to live and condemning millions of Americans for actions you deemed immoral. But your high ground is washed away. After years of condemning gambling as a social ill, youre caught knee-deep in pro-gambling campaigns hatched by indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

It's time to stop telling others how to act, and start practicing what you preach.

End your hypocrisy.

Sincerely,

Hypocricy is unbecoming in a leader who claims to speak for religion. But it seems it's also the Christian thing to do. And people wonder why I have no interest converting to Christianity.

You quote the bible when it suits you and ignore it when it doesn't. What phonies! Like most "holier than thou" types, you like to preach, but fail to practice.

The Perfect Man is gentle Never cruel or mean. He has a beautiful smile, And keeps his face so clean. The Perfect Man likes children, And will raise them by your side. He will be a good father As well as a good husband to his man. The Perfect Man loves cooking, cleaning and vaccuuming, too. He'll do anything in his power To convey his feelings of love to you. The Perfect Man is sweet Writing poetry from your name He's a best friend to your mother, And kisses away your pain. He never has made you cry, Or battered you in any way. To hell with this endless poem, The Perfect Man is gay

I knew since the very beginnings of your movement back in the early 1970s that you were all hypocrites. There have been many events that point to your (collective) hypocrisy in the past 30 years. This is just the latest. Shut up and leave me alone! I am NOT a Christian and PROUD of it. I am a Jew and a Buddhist and I look forward to a glorious afterlife but I do not need to convince anyone else to live as I do. It is my private decision, as your religion should be to you.

Christianity teaches that we all should treat others fairly. It's time that the religious right reread their book of knowledge & follow it.

Jesus never said a word about abortion or homosexuality. He did, however, mention taking care of the poor a lot. You are hypocrites living in your gilded mansions. Jesus never said that his followers should spend lots of money of radio and TV and building big houses for his ministers. I am happy to state that I am not and never will claim to be Christian as long as there are representatives of the faith such as you.

I find it highly insulting that such morally bankrupt, not to mention, completely corrupted individuals feel the need to continually look down their noses and unfairly judge those that are different from them.... Who will you unjustly persecute and openly discriminate against next, you deplorable bigots? Learn to practice what you preach but more importantly, you should learn not be so holier-than-thou-art by harshly judging others--it's really not your place to be judging anyone when it comes right down to it. Why don't you pick topics that really have substance and that are really an important issue, like feeding & clothing the poor, finding homes for the homeless, better education for our children, stricter laws against child abuse and sexual predators, etc. You are nothing more than hateful, spiteful bigots and your rhetoric is weak and baseless. It's about time that you were exposed for being the fraudulent, incompetent, idiots that you truly are.
