Don't Deny Insurance Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions

Target: Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Families USA
Currently many health insurance companies operate in a wild wild west of little or no rules or regulation - unfettered to cherry pick the healthiest and to deny coverage to those who need it the most.

How do insurance companies do this? They look for "pre-existing conditions" - then they can legally deny someone coverage because they have an imperfect bill of health. Insurers might also charge these individuals much higher premiums for their coverage.

Health insurance shouldn't be reserved only for the healthiest among us.

Make sure John McCain and Barack Obama get this message, and tell them they must include everyone in their plans for quality, affordable health care!

Dear Senator McCain and Senator Obama,

Nearly 50 million Americans have no health insurance at all, while the middle class is getting squeezed by skyrocketing health care costs.

Meanwhile, insurance companies will only cover the healthiest among us, denying people with pre-existing conditions the coverage they need.

[Your comment here]

I urge you to lead the charge for quality, affordable health care for all Americans, including those with pre-existing conditions.

Sincerely,

I've been a diabetic for over 48 years and it's still considered a pre-existing condition. The cost of prescriptions has sky-rocketed through the years but health coverage has deteriorated. It's past time the government steps in and does SOMETHING!!!

I've always found this practice disgusting. Preventive care helps everyone, even those who have pre-existing conditions. Are those people not considered human?

Insurance is a scam, and by only insuring healthy people, it proves just what a scam it is.

When there are pre-existing conditions that are not covered they often have to go untreated. This leads to other health problems. These insurance companies are helping no one and causing more and more people who need medical care to go without.

I'm one of those who can't afford health insurance because of "pre-existing conditions" and one of my prescriptions is supplied directly by the drug company because of my income. The other medications I take are roughly the equivalent of a small car payment every month.

We need to be proactive with our health. Not allowing people insurance for a pre-existing condition will only cost us more in the end.

The reason for pre-existing conditions is the inability to afford health care in the first place.

Just because you have Excellent health care paid for by the people, doesn't mean you shouldn't care about the healthcare of the people.

It is completely unfair to only cover healthy people - the point of health insurance is to help you when you're sick, not to increase the CEO's bottom line!
