Demand Real Protection for Giant Sequoia National Monument
Target:US Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid; Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi Sponsored by:Sierra Club
The Giant Sequoia trees of California are the largest living trees in the world ... some are as ancient as 3,400 years old, with a diameter of greater than 35 feet and the height of a 25-story building.
Giant Sequoias are among the oldest living trees on the planet. Many took
root long before our great, great grandparents were born, and will live to
see our great, great grandchildren -- if we don't allow the timber industry
to destroy them first.
The Giant Sequoias were here before our nation was founded, quietly witnessing the evolution of our society. Now our "progress" is the greatest threat to their continued survival.
Sign the petition today to urge US leaders to bring real protection to the Giant Sequoia National Monument.
We signed the “Demand Real Protection for Giant Sequoia National Monument” petition!

This is a good idea - set up a law that protects any developers, etc., from trying to horn in on another one of our nation's treasures.

Having visited the redwoods for our honeymoon, they made an impression that will never leave. If you haven't visited them yet, do so ASAP, because unless they receive better protection, they may not be there to visit if you wait.

God knows there are literally millions of acres of available timber, there is no need to destroy nature's masterpieces. There isn't much awe left in a field of 4,000-year-old stumps.

I grew up in Humboldt county where I played among the redwoods and giant sequoia's. I hope many other children get a chance to see such an amzing site.
