End Dolphin Slaughtering in Japan

Target: Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister of Japan, Government of Japan
Sponsored by: Blue Voice
Every year, Japanese fishermen, with the support of the Japanese government, slaughter thousands of dolphins in a brutal manner. And now Japan plans to extend the hunt to include humpback whales!

This practice is killing magnificent, feeling animals, and endangering dolphin and whale populations. Furthermore, this hunt is also hurting the people of Japan. Dolphin and whale dolphin meat sold to the Japanese public contains high levels of toxic heavy metals and organochlorines.

Demand that Japanese law end this brutal slaughter of intelligent marine mammals and protect the health of the people of Japan.
deadline: 10-1-2006
goal: 20,000

We hereby petition the Prime Minister of Japan, the Ministry of Fisheries and the governors of Wakayama, Nagasaki and Shizuoka Prefectures to end the brutal slaughter of dolphins and small whales in coastal villages of Japan.

The slaughters are conducted in a shockingly brutal manner which is repugnant to civilized people worldwide. Dolphins and whales are large brained, highly social animals which are respected around the world. They are curious and friendly to humans when approached with care and respect. Many nations have laws which protect these animals.

The meat of the dolphins killed which is sold for human consumption is highly contaminated with heavy metals and organochlorines resulting from industrial discharge into the oceans. This meat does not meet Japanese health standards and is often mislabeled as whale meat.

Many Japanese people care highly for dolphins. Most Japanese are unaware that dolphins are killed in this cruel manner in their country. Only a few fishermen in a small number of villages profit from this barbarity.

We demand an end to the cruel slaughter of dolphins and small whales in Japanese waters.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
We signed the “End Dolphin Slaughtering in Japan” petition!

Yes and this is the only way to hurt the Japanese Government and that is financially. With the Internet we have now reached a point in human kinds evolution to make irresponsible primitive Governments culpable. There is no excuse of such human behaviour. Support and buy from responsible Nations and boycott corrupt and negligent states.

Some responses here are collectively racist about all Japanese. Not me. Japanese corporate greed and inhumanity I look at with the same lens as the inhumane treatment of livestock here in the U.S. The inhumane treatment of Dolphins has the same brutal imperitive that operated at Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq. No to Panasonic and Haliburton.

Absolutely. Japan has historically be a very violent nation and can not longer use the excuse that they' ve been killing dolphins for centuries to continue to do so. It is common knowledge the high intelligence of this mammal..would they kill chimps for food if they were numerous? What's the difference? I boycott all Japanese products.

The Japanese say it is part of their culture but so was beheading with the sword, do they do that still? All cultures change over time, language, religion and politics change in all societies given enough time. As a culture becomes more 'civilized' laws change and what was once acceptable behavior is no longer accepted. To use 'it is part of our culture' as an excuse is to declare a stagnated culture.

It is barbaric! Dolphins are not like fish. They experience pain, fear, etc. All animals used for food deserve to be handled humanely. Japan is known for it's cruelty in the name of culture. Stop buying Japanese products!
