One in three women may suffer from abuse and violence in her lifetime. Perhaps the most pervasive human rights violation that we know today, it devastates lives, fractures communities and stalls development.
We have begun to break the wall of silence by moving the issue onto public agendas everywhere. To bolster our cause, we need your support to show that there is an ever-growing movement of people who demand decisive action on ending violence against women.
The UN Foundation and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) have supported efforts to link activists and advocates around the world and show how small innovative projects can impact laws, policies and attitudes. This work is supported through the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women that was established in 1996 by the UN General Assembly, and is managed by UNIFEM.
Let survivors of violence around the world know that they can count on us. The UN Foundation will give $1 to UNIFEM for each new person that signs on to the Say NO to Violence against Women Campaign.

It is long past due that we humans give up our whole world's imbedded cultural and religious attitudes. We must destroy the attitudes that might always makes right; that violence is normal; that violence particularly against women and children is acceptable. As long as people give men the power to beat women then there will be violence. Change the law books of old and punish men for their outrageous violence.. Men MUST be punished for this or it will continue...and I don't mean some stupid slap on the wrist either. Why is violence amongst men tolerated anyway? And what does it solve? A real man who is not intimidated by what women can do will not show aggression or violence toward a woman. Men who are a lesser human being and cannot be a real man will become violent as he knows he is inefficient; as women do it all anyway. Men are useless and they know it and that is why they react to women so violently and suppress them. Grow up already men and see the light of day.

Domestic violence has been a part of my life since childhood. Even though I finally am living in a safe situation it is still part of me. I tried to prevent it from affecting my child but was unable. I am grateful for Nicole's work and for this petition.
