Stop Dogfighting Now!
Sponsored by: American Humane AssociationDog fighting is a cruel and brutal practice. The abuses are so gruesome that even experienced investigators are shocked by what they discover at dog fighting raids.
For the sake of human profit, the dogs are trained to kill. To ensure their aggression dogs are beaten, chained and fed gunpowder, illegal drugs and even live animals -- and sometimes they are not fed at all for long periods of time. In the end, dogs that do not win are either killed or left to die horrific and painful deaths.
The Federal Dog Protection Act addresses these issues of cruelty, providing much needed protection to the animals that are pulled into this barbaric blood sport. This bill is necessary to adequately punish anyone who not only operates and engages in, but also attends and otherwise supports, dog-fighting events. In addition, the bill bans the use of the U.S. Postal Service to mail dog fighting paraphernalia and has a civil suit provision.

Dog fighting represents one of the cruelest, misguided activities possible within a civilized society. Its practice is a clear example of subhuman behavior. It is imperative that we remember that these dogs are victims, not the perpetrators of crimes. We owe these splendid, loyal creatures far more. Of all the animals on our planet, the dog has been one of the most significant, not to mention beneficial creatures in our development. It is impossible to imagine human life, as we know it without their noble presence. It is an honor to take part in this petition. I would like to thank all of those who have participated thus far. Together, we can put the culpability where it truly belongs: with the appalling, malevolent owners of these mistreated, victimized animals.

There has to be harsher punishment for what the owners of these dogs are putting them through! The has to be some way to regulate who can and can not own an animal! It is reprehensible to inflict pain on any animal. I own two rescue dogs. They have been abused. I have never owned more grateful beautiful and loyal pets. Also, any society whcih introduces this "sport" to children and spectators diminishes the child's ability to empathize with any creature in pain and suffering. Dog fighting is contemptible on any level.

Because it is one of the cruelest things I have ever heard of in my life. Dogs are supposed to be man's best friend and how can you be friends with someone who puts you through this torture? It wouldn't suprise me if the dogs who are put through this turn on their owners because it is truely disguisting- it is a blood sport and only a sick minded person would support this. This and bull fighting and such sports should be stopped immediately as it is for nothing but the pleasure of insane people. It is breaking my heart to know that dogs could be dying everyday because of this, it isn't right and needs to end. Whoever reads this please take a moment to think about what this is doing to these poor animals who only want love and affection from those who are supposed to be looking after them and giving them a good life. I recently lost my dog Nelson, a long haired Jack Russell in Christmas 2007 he was 16, and my life has not been the same without him. We gave him the best life possible and it has left me with some very fond and happy memories. As I am writing this now my eyes are filled with tears because I know what having a dog to love can mean. Please see the picture I have attached as this is what having a dog should mean. So please end this cruelty now for animal lovers everywhere. |

Why shouldn't it be stopped? There is nothing good about this "sport"! I myself love pitbulls and hope to own one when I move out. They are judged wrong just because of what people have done to them. There are plenty of nice and non-aggressive pitbulls that haven't been taught to fight. Dog fighting is cruel and is torture to these animals. The punishment for dog fighting is not severe enough obviously as it is still going on. We need to up the cost of fighting per dog and up the jail time even more. These dogs are killed and when another person kills another person they get the death penalty. What does a dog fighter get? A couple of years in prison! Not fair at all.
