Stop the War by Reversing the Bill that Started It

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Bill Richardson for President
Congress has the power to stand up to Bush and stop the war with a decision that cannot be vetoed – and bring our troops home once and for all.

Congress authorized the War Powers Act, which allowed the invasion of Iraq. Now they can end the war by de-authorizing the Act.

This powerful, yet little-known congressional tool is a way for our leaders - and the American people - to stand up against a president who has turned stubbornness into foreign policy.

The de-authorization of the war was just introduced on the Senate floor. Governor Bill Richardson believes this is the best approach to ending the violence, and wants to take it one step further with a swift withdrawal timeline to get troops out of Iraq by the end of the year.

“I know this region well and understand how people there see the world,” Richardson said. “I even met with Saddam Hussein and secured the release of hostages. Diplomacy can work in this region – I’ve done it before – there is no military solution in Iraq.”

Urge Congress to immediately de-authorize the war in Iraq and bring the troops home!

Dear [Decision Maker]

Congress has the power to end this war. Congress authorized the invasion of Iraq under the War Powers Act and you can now de-authorize it and bring the troops home.

De-authorization can't be vetoed. And it's not up for negotiation with a President who believes mere stubbornness is a foreign policy and that he can just ignore the will of the American people.

The time has come to stand up to George Bush once and for all. Let's not wait or waver while more people die.

[Your comment here]

I urge you to immediately de-authorize the war in Iraq and bring the troops home. All of them.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Under the guise of homeland security, we, as a nation, surrendered not only our Constitutional Rights, we surrendered our reason. Let us reclaim our senses and reverse the War Powers Act.

QUOTE: "stand up against a president who has turned stubbornness into foreign policy." ....................................................................... I will gladly stand up next to you - as I had sung in our US nations song every year of my life growing up there in the USA!............................................................................ I will gladly stand up next to you - and I am a foreigner my fellow americans, for I have a soul which knows no color, no discrimination and heeds no hatred towards foreigners...................................................................... NOTE TO ALL AMERICANS! YOU THE PEOPLE ARE NOT DISLIKED IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD, IT IS YOUR CHOSEN GOVERNMENT WHICH IS DISLIKED!....................................................................... For the love of all of the fallen troops (men & women) and all of the Iraqis (mothers, fathers, women, CHILDREN and young teens and men) whom have left their lives tacked onto this corrupted blood bank bill made by US officials out of EGO - These deceased have also signed this petition, as I sign it for each and every one of them! Re-election is near, that would be a second step to ending this war! Pay close attention to what the next President shows, as G.W.B. clearly stated his intentions during the first days in office, but no one really listened! This President should be the LAST President whom goes into foreign countries without the consent of its people. This President should be the LAST President whom can use a once known great country for to masterbate his personal issues. This President should be the LAST President whom is allowed to have such influence on world affairs and be all means there should never be a President allowed to bring his son into the Oval office as the next President. Your signature counts, your vote counts and your LIFE counts. Some of us haved paid for the mistakes of our government/ our President with our lives! Ask yourself, how much is a life worth? In rememberence of our Troops in the middle east war!

We must do everything we can to stop this stupid illegal occupation. Far too many lives have been sacrificed in the name of this insanity and due to the greed of a wealthy few!

i support President Bush. i'm a republican and i do like him. but, this war has got to end. we are sacrificing American Soldiers in Iraq fighting for another country's freedom. American troops are fighting for a country who hates the United States. they will never want reform. some do, but the one's who do not outnumber the rest. we have got to end this. American soldiers are losing their lives here. we defend the same people who hate us. what is wrong with that situation? you tell me.

We should have NEVER sent young men and young women into Iraq to murder and maim the other people living there. We ask that you bring them home NOW by reversing the bill that sent them there. Thank you...in advance.
