Pledge to Higher Quality, Lower Cost Health Care

Sponsored by: Consumers Union

Americans spend more on health care than people do elsewhere, but somehow we spend more for less.

Most of us have no clue about the actual cost of our medical care until the bills arrive, because hospitals and doctors don’t publish their charges. The cost of insurance goes up and up, with fewer services covered. Millions of Americans needlessly suffer or die from preventable medical errors and infections.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Costs can come down and quality can improve if we stop letting the insurance companies run the show, make billing clear and simple, and focus on prevention and managing chronic illness better.

You can make a difference by taking our pledge and joining our effort to make health care a top priority for our nation’s leaders, no matter who wins the election.

THE PLEDGE:
I want to join with other Americans to support action, answers and accountability. It is time to:
  • Give my family security that we will have quality care when we need it at a cost we can afford;
  • Make hospitals and doctors more transparent about the cost and quality of care they offer;
  • Elmininate unnecessary bureaucracy between patients and the care they need;
  • End long waits for care;
  • Examine all solutions that will ensure all Americans access to quality, affordable care, with input from real people like me.

Given the fact that our government gives much needed aid to countries worldwide, why wouldn't our government want to give more to the citizens of the U.S.

High quality health care at low cost is extremely important to me because I was disabled by an accident on the job and work now as an independent contractor only when work is available. Times are quite tough, economically, for me and I am getting older. This should be the right of every American. It just makes sense.

Health Insurance is a BIG ISSUE now a days. I believe we all should have health insurance!It isn't fare that most of the people in this country don't have health insurance.Health insurance is very important to have and the reason why most people don't have it is because they can't afford it.It's really sad to know that a lot of people are really sick and dying because they can't afford it.Anyways I think everyone should speak up and let your voice be heard about the issues on health insurance.It's a good thing to do and you never know maybe someday we will have affordable health insurance for are families including your family pet(s).

This country is in desperate need of quality affordable healthcare. We are in need of a helthcare system that is based on patient's needs rather than the size of their wallet. I shouldn't be afraid to take my children to the doctor simply because I can't afford it, in fact, no mother should feel that way. No parent should have to feel like less of a person because they can't afford their child's medicine (medicine which they probably don't need, but their doctor gets bonus pay from pharmaceutical companies for pushing their products on vulnerable, naive patients).

I feel that the doctors should only get paid for healing the person.! (NOT HEAL,NOT GET PAID) NOT JUST BURYING THE REAL PROBLEM. THEY CHOOSE TO PUT A TEMP BANDAIDE. ON EVERY PATIENT .. .I feel that the doctors are getting rich of the avails of the SICK!!

Why can't the rest of us have the same health care benefits members of Congress currently enjoy? And that we're all paying for, by the way. Why is it considered "socialized medicine" if we were to receive the same level of care some of universal cares' critics do? Is any one else sickened - pardon the pun - by the hypocrisy yet?

I believe that health care should be for everyone, not just those who can afford to pay those hefty premiums for mediocre health care. If we focus on health care prevention instead of just fixing the problem when it happens, it will help everyone. We need to provide more education on how to maintain our health and less advertising on medication that is supposed to solve all our problems.

It is amazing to me that our country can continually pump huge amounts of money into other countries yet the wellbeing of our own citizens is not properly addressed. Doesn't anyone in Washington D.C. have a plan? Affordable health care for all should be a priority for our nation's lawmakers. I'd love to have their health plan.

It's important because a great deal of the cost of rising health care is uncalled for and the result of poor procedures that need to be streamlined or otherwise improved. I want to join with other Americans to support action, answers and accountability. It is time to: Give my family security that we will have quality care when we need it at a cost we can afford; Make hospitals and doctors more transparent about the cost and quality of care they offer; Elmininate unnecessary bureaucracy between patients and the care they need; End long waits for care; Examine all solutions that will ensure all Americans access to quality, affordable care, with input from real people like me.

I am currently a widow paying over $400.00 a month, out of pocket expense, for healthcare. I don't feel very secure with my plan because of the additional copays. Whenever I absolutely have to visit the doctor I dread the bill coming in from my insurance company because the copay is at least $40-50. for a visit not to mention any medications I may need. $400.00 is a lot of money to me considering my current budget. I as well as many other Americans would like affordable health care and do not want to live in fear of a possible health crisis. We as hard working decent people deserve to be given reasonable affordable options by our government.
