Pledge to Higher Quality, Lower Cost Health Care

Sponsored by: Consumers Union

Americans spend more on health care than people do elsewhere, but somehow we spend more for less.

Most of us have no clue about the actual cost of our medical care until the bills arrive, because hospitals and doctors don’t publish their charges. The cost of insurance goes up and up, with fewer services covered. Millions of Americans needlessly suffer or die from preventable medical errors and infections.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Costs can come down and quality can improve if we stop letting the insurance companies run the show, make billing clear and simple, and focus on prevention and managing chronic illness better.

You can make a difference by taking our pledge and joining our effort to make health care a top priority for our nation’s leaders, no matter who wins the election.

THE PLEDGE:
I want to join with other Americans to support action, answers and accountability. It is time to:
  • Give my family security that we will have quality care when we need it at a cost we can afford;
  • Make hospitals and doctors more transparent about the cost and quality of care they offer;
  • Elmininate unnecessary bureaucracy between patients and the care they need;
  • End long waits for care;
  • Examine all solutions that will ensure all Americans access to quality, affordable care, with input from real people like me.

Healthcare should be CHEAP or FREE! Doctors need time to examine patients carefully. Patients need to have affordable and customised healthcare and billing. However, as Insurance policies are limited to types of medicare, people end up paying for something not covered or missing out completely. Basically customers are paying out for something they will never use. What's the point? Insurance companies should never have the final say on how much a patient is billed and what is covered. Only the DOCTORS should, because it's there JOB!!! Healthcare Insurance policies should be open and not closed, not rated on types of medicare but evaluated on what is needed, and billed accordingly.

i think it is a real crime that other countries have better health care than we do it is really sad since our country is suppose to be so rich. if we would quit helping everyone else we can afford health care for our people.

I am a single mother with 3 children, 1 who is on her own, and am struggling with finances like many single parents. My insurance is not very good compared to the last job I had. It doesn't really do a very good job of covering my prescriptions and seems to take a VERY long time to pay my doctors.

For one I have worked with The State Of Florida for over 21 Years, my husband has gien (25) years. When we retire in order to keep are insurance will have to pay over 1,200.00 dollars a month, that's a good part of are retirment. We deserve to have afforable insurance as well as quality insurance, without going bankrupt.

I have no medical insurance and haven't had any for 3 + years. I buy some meds from Canada as I can't afford them here at our prices. I try natural remedies for everything before even considering going to a doctor. I'm a citizen born here and yet make too much to qualify for county insurance and too little to be able to afford it on my own. That's just not right.

The insurance and drug companies must be regulated so that they don't give kick=backs to doctors, hospitals and clinics. Doctors must Stop prescribing unecessary medications and research medications that are related to patient's illnes.

The US the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee health care to ALL of it's citizens. The system we have now is insane, it needs to be changed.

ANY Healthcare would be an improvement over our current condition, but it needs, of course, to be focused on HEALTH, not on disease.
