It's Happened in South Dakota - Protect Choice in Your State Now!

Target: Your State Governor
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
In 2006, the worst has happened: South Dakota has banned abortion.

What did the law do? South Dakota's criminal ban outlawed abortion in almost all cases and does not protect a woman in cases of rape or incest or even when her health is in danger. Doctors who violate the ban could face up to five years in prison.

The law was part of a larger anti-choice strategy to overturn Roe v. Wade altogether. To quote the South Dakota House Speaker Matthew Michels, "I think the stars are aligned." [Los Angeles Times, 2/25/06]

Please join us in sending a message to U.S. governors asking them to hold the line on a woman's right to choose.

Dear Governor,

A woman's right to choose is protected by the U.S. Supreme Court and should be a decision between a woman and her doctor - without interference from politicians.

Please protect the rights of women in our state by vetoing any anti-choice legislation that comes before you this legislative session.
We signed the “It's Happened in South Dakota - Protect Choice in Your State Now!” petition!

What business is it of the government what a woman decides to do with her body? It has absolutely nothing to do with government. You are endangering women by taking away abortion rights.

This law is in direct opposition to the Roe vs Wade decision. It will hold up courts for years, per the news article, and what? During those years they will be able to act in direct opposition to a long-standing decision until it is either approved or denied???? Are you, or the governor of any state, ready to produce the funds to care for all the unwanted babies that will be born. Are you willing to pay for the funerals of those dying at the hands of "backroom abortionists?" How do you plan to comfort the family?? Many women seem to be careless about their birth control. Some are uneducated, others are teens who really do not understand the consequences of their actions. They believe they are invulnerable, just as they do when it comes to risking their lives. You have children, 12 year olds or less, engaging in sexual activity. Will you say that they know and understand fully the consequences?? Everyone is so busy protecting the fetal rights, in cases the rights of the egg itself, that they seem willing to throw the women involved to the wolves. What about the men? Why are the women solely held accountable? What do you plan to do to prevent pregnancies. Launch a tv campaign? Promote abstinence in schools? What about the parents? Where are their responsibilities? Unplanned pregnancies happen all the time, no matter how much information is spread. It would be nice indeed if people only got pregnant when they were willing and able to care for a child. But that is not reality! Quit fighting reality. Instead put your attention on handling reality, not on trying to install a type of utopian society. Deal with what is!

WTF? This ban is borderline retarded! I suppose that S.D has all the services in place to support a big jump in teen pregnancy and more people on welfare/medicare? What next? Are they going to ban birth control as well in SD? Oh.. wait, I get it. S.D is where BushCo and the NeoCons are planning on getting their next generation of cannon fodder!

Outlaw the choice for women to chose what is right for themselves and open the door to back street butchers. Why don't you work toward providing better health care and affordable medication - help people with their needs, don't regulate their bodies.

Keep abortion safe and legal. Enact legislation to provide pre-natal care for all women and health care to people. That is pro-life.

It's our body, therefore, it should be our right to choose what we do with it. Including getting an abortion if need be. If you personally don't like abortion, then fine. No need to push your personal views and/or opinions on us.

SO... Now more fundamentalist and absurd abuse of human rights. To by law, require a rape or incest victim to have to bear the life long reminder of the fruit of their violation... Or any other woman denied free choice about her body and free life choices... Who the hell do these fundamentalist hypocrits think they are ? The Inqusition and Scarlet letter awarders of God ? IMPEACH THEM !

"For I was hungry and you gave me no food; I was thirsty and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then will he answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me." (Matthew 25:42-45) Contained within every evil(greedy profiteering republican) act are the seeds of its own destruction. Adhere to the teachings of Jesus, as contained in The Urantia Book, or else suffer the consequences. It IS that simple. TRUTH has been spoken to power, Peace will prevail. Buck Fush! SUPPORT U.S. TROOPS, AND GLOBAL PEACE AND ECONOMIC STABILITY, AS WELL AS ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY... IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY NOW!

The rights of tax-paying women should always hold priority over those of that which has not even been born. That should be abundantly clear.

What right do these law makers have to choose what we can and cannot do with our bodies. Are we heading back to the dark ages? What other rights are they going to try and take away from women next.

First her right to choose about her body, then a woman loses other rights! Of she can't make the decision herself, why rely on others to do it for her?

The Bush Administration is removing U.S. citizens rights one by one. This is the final straw. The government does not have the right to interfere with a woman's right to choose.

It's clear that this country is regressing where women's fundamental rights are concerned. I am very glad I live in California, a state NARAL Pro-Choice America has given an A+ to for its record on reproductive rights. But I fear for women throughout this country. I am currently pregnant with twins, and I do NOT want my children to grow up in a world of back-alley abortions. Please do everything in your power to uphold a woman's right to choose at the state level - we clearly can no longer trust or depend on the federal government to uphold our freedoms.

It is a person's right to determine the course of their healthcare whether you agree with their decision or not. It should not matter if a person is male or female. They should still have that right to choose. Please do not allow that right to choose be taken from women. You would not want it taken from you.
