In 2006, the worst has happened: South Dakota has banned abortion.
What did the law do? South Dakota's criminal ban outlawed abortion in almost all cases and does not protect a woman in cases of rape or incest or even when her health is in danger. Doctors who violate the ban could face up to five years in prison.
The law was part of a larger anti-choice strategy to overturn Roe v. Wade altogether. To quote the South Dakota House Speaker Matthew Michels, "I think the stars are aligned." [Los Angeles Times, 2/25/06]

WE MUST protect womens rights! Next thing you know state after state will ban it just like gay marriage laws spreading across the U.S. A woman has every right to decide if she is ready for a baby including health problems, pschological/physical problems, incest, RAPE!! Thats crazy that they banned it. PLease help the women everyday who work in this country and support the men 24/7.

This is crazy. How dare anyone make laws telling women they cannot make health care choices for themselves. Abortion is an extremely difficult decision to make and should only involve a woman and her health care provider. How could anyone think that it's OK to take away a rape victim's choice? This should never have been a political issue. The government has no place here. I would like to see some of these politicians and activists take in some of these unwanted children. To busy raising money and creating havoc to do that I'd say. Instead, these poor children are brought into this world, some terribly abused, left on streets, no family, no love, no home. Is this really the better alternative. If the states steps in...more times than not these children end up even worse. Abused not only by family, but by the very system that caused all this. I think that any goverment that sanctions the banning of abortion should be held responsible for the health, support, etc. of each child and mother it forces into these circumstances. To take the choice away from a woman is setting us back hundreds of years.
