Tell the President and Congress to Fund America's Future First!
Sponsored by: WANDOn February 6, 2006, President Bush announced his proposed federal budget for Fiscal Year 2007. In an effort to secure America, he proposes a dramatic increase in military funding - with significant cuts to social services like health, education, housing, and nutrition. These cuts fall disproportionately on women, children, the elderly, and the poor.
Shouldn't America's security be about investing in American's health, welfare, and preparedness at home first?
Hurricane Katrina made it overtly clear that even after the 9/11 crisis, America's systems of emergency response are far from where they need to be. Our country still remains ill-prepared to handle major natural disasters and attacks by so-called weapons of mass destruction.
Last year, OVER HALF of our discretionary budget went towards Pentagon funding - nearly half a trillion dollars. And THIS year, Bush wants to increase the Pentagon's slice of the pie by 7%, to $463 billion. (This doesn't include the price of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have cost over $300 billion since 2001.)
When he pumps more money into the Pentagon, he's also funneling funds away from 141 social programs - including education, environmental protection, disease research, programs that assist low-income families, and emergency preparedness - the stuff that really protects Americans and secures our futures.
It's time for your voice to be heard. Urge the President and the Senate that they need to put American's security at home FIRST. Our defense budget is far larger than any other country's, and our military is far and away the largest and strongest in the world. Security is more than the biggest military. We can afford to invest in the security and well being of all of us at home.
It's time to make real change to the budget, to reflect our real priorities and values.

For a republican president who claims to have 'family values' at heart and at the center piece of his administration, not to mention how you tell Americans (of all faiths) how your Christian relgion has helped make you what you are today....how can you possibly cut social programs that provide many Americans with so many necessary things? It is fundamentally wrong and seriously inhumane to do this. It saddens me that you challenge the world and suspected terrorists abroad, yet you never step up to the plate and battle and resolve issues within our own country that greatly AFFECT the lives of all Americans. I can think of no other president, republican or democrat, who has taken so much from the people, and given so little.

Three hurricanes took my family home. FEMA took what little we had left with their empty promises and mismanagement. My Children have healthcare equivalent to some third world countries. I am NOT alone!! WHEN will this lousy administration focus on this countries needs? When the US collapses? I say NOW is the time to redirect wasteful spending to those truely in need.. UNITED STATES CITIZENS!! Bush says he wishes to help the Iraqi women and children rebuild their lives.. HELLO.. help your OWN first! FOCUS on safety and welfare WITHIN our own borders.

It is high time to put education first in this Country. The main reason that the US is falling further and further behind other nations in areas of science, math, etc. is because the education system in this country is outdated. Instead of continuing to fund wars, that just see more and more of our children lost, the President and both house of Congress should be focused on how to improve an out-dated Education System, where even though social promotion is supposed to be non-existent, it still very much exists. We will never be able to compete on a world level until our education system is brought into the 21st century and on par with Europe and Asia. Our children should come first, otherwise, there will be no nation to fight for.
