Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

As recently as July, state wildlife agency personnel in Alaska staked out a known wolf denning site -- a practice that is illegal under Alaska law -- and, using helicopters, gunned down 14 adult wolves from the air. When they landed, they found the 14 helpless pups in the nearby dens -- just weeks old -- and methodically shot each one in the head. 28 wolves gunned down in all.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

I cannot believe that this is still going on, how can aerial hunting be fair game for the wolves, how would they feel is they were in a war and they had no guns and the other side have helicopters with guns that chassed them down until they could go no further then they get shot for fun, this would be called war crimes and it would cause an uproar, so how is it fair for the wolves who can't complain.

We have become a shameful race of losers to actually resort to aerial hunting. No doubt if you continue to let the cromagnum human race hunt in this cowardly fashion we will be responsible for making rendering another specie extinct. What a selfish, mindless waste of flesh the human race has become....

Please stop hunting Aerial, I feel very sad whenever I hear the animals being killed or hunted for the sake of fun, sport and fashion. Wloves, one of the kinds of canine, are living beings like human. We all human and animal share and live together on this world. Yet, animal can't speak, express their needs to us,it is so pitiful. Many ways of cruel hunting and any merceless treating to animal should be stopped. Have sympathy on all living beings!

they are beautiful dogs, why can't we just leave nature alone? If it's not attacking us, we shouldn't be attacking it.

Alaskans have twice voted to stop this policy, but the state government continues to allow wolves to be needlessly slaughtered from the skies. Nearly 700 wolves have been killed this way -- and another season has already begun. The PAW Act will put Alaska's savage policy to an end -- and prevent it from spreading to the Greater Yellowstone region. Please sign on to cosponsor this critical legislation today. Thank you for considering my comments. I look forward to hearing from you on this important matter.

Stop allowing hunters to kill anything by air. Please please make it hard for hunters to kill with out any reason or need. Murdering animals from a helicopter or a plane takes little skill or even really investment other than money. Please do not support wanton waste of life. sign on to support H.R. 3663 and protect America's wildlife. They have enough hurdles to face as we change the global environment and destroy habitat right and left.

OMG, this is sick and these people are right up there with other animal cruelty that Alaska allows this and perhaps Wyoming and Idaho is going to allow this as well. Let's put these people on the ground and let someone shoot them from a aircraft and see how they feel running for their lives. Our wildlife has a purpose and they came here way before man and we invaded their homes.

Aerial hunting of any wildlife is barbaric: what chance does a wolf or any other animal have when chased to exhaustion by a helicopter or small plane?! Aerial hunting is killing to just kill & should be outlawed. I want to go to Alaska to see wolves LIVING in the wild--shame on you for allowing trophy hunters to murder animals that most of us would feel privileged to see ALIVE. Trophy hunters are the scum of the earth--shame on you for supporting their obscene hobby.
