Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

As recently as July, state wildlife agency personnel in Alaska staked out a known wolf denning site -- a practice that is illegal under Alaska law -- and, using helicopters, gunned down 14 adult wolves from the air. When they landed, they found the 14 helpless pups in the nearby dens -- just weeks old -- and methodically shot each one in the head. 28 wolves gunned down in all.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

Stop this NOW - Man needs to stop killing our planet. By killing these wolves, man is disrupting the circle of life, which inturn is killing our plant. If natural habitats weren't being oblitereated everyday by man, then the animals of this planet wouldn't be in trouble . Man needs to stop OUR SELF DESTRUCTION

A Prayer for Animals By Albert Schweitzer Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to sleep. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

wolves are intelligent, they live into well organized community. They are very wary of mankind and fortunately because of that they have survived. It is very coward and stupid to kill such admirable and beautiful creatures. So please stop killing them.

Wolves are for me the greatest symbol of freedom and wilderness. Please show them the respect they deserve. Here in Sweden we don´t have that many wolves left and I feel it is a great loss to everyone. To learn that wolves, and other animals are being hunted from the air makes me incredibly sad and depressed since I feel that the animals that have the freedom we humans want, are the ones that are shown no respect. Please help the PAW Act to stop nedless slaughtering of these animals. Sincerely Ida Lindelöf

As an owner of an Alaskan Malamute, Im horrified to know that people call hunting for poor inocent animals a sport. Personally I would love to be able to hunt those that hunt animals in the same way and see how you feel and make you run until your worn out and shoot you right between the eyes, like your nothing cause thats all you are nothing. This is BARBARIC. LETS PUT A STOP TO THIS.

I don't think it is right to kill wolves and other wild life. They aren't hurting us . They are God's creatures. They are great creatures. The PAW ACT should be passed. Thank you.

These beautiful animals have NO chance under these conditions, and I find this sickening! Maybe those men need a little taste of their own medicine!!!! Let the nature balance itself out. There is NO need for this. If those men want to hunt, then let them hunt down serial killers, etc. Put them to work for a GOOD cause!

the Wolf is a rare and magestic beast, a lesson to us all in family values. what skill or pleasure is there in this barbaric way of hunting. surely it would be better to observe the wolf and learn from his cunning and the way the whole pack not just one, take part when they hunt, not take the sissy option, it may just help in this dog eat dog world of ours.
