Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

I dont understand why hunters want to kill wolves or wolf pups. I mean the wolves didnt do anything to those hunters that shot them. My sister and I are wolf lovers.....and I just dont understand why those hunters would do this type of crime. Please save these wolves

It is outrageous that an act so cruel is still permitted in our time. Preditors of all kinds exist to keep nature in balance. When the natural balance of things are manipulated by man we ultimately will be sorry. Just wait and see........

can we help these creatures survive in one of the few areas humans have not crowded them out? I would love to think that wolves will continue to exist for our grandchildren to know and appreciate, too. Thank you!

In a state as large as Alaska how can they be so inconsiderate? Whats even more flustrating is their Governor is running for our Vice Presidental spot! If she condones this lack of compassion for wolves in her home state what does the rest of the country have in store (if she wins that is).

This isn't hunting, it's animal massacre. I am totally against killing, just to kill. Since when is it okay to kill endangered animals? People will keep destroying until there's nothing left. Stop the madness!

When will life mean more than death? If a hunt is really such a challenge. Set up a hunt that catches the animal, then spay the animal. No more babies no more problem, a lot more control. And the "hunter" is actually helping america, not just grossly pleasing himself. Or can a hunter be as smart as a wild animal?

I feel completely appalled to discover that the hunting (in any form, let alone aerial) of endangered animals, especially wolves should be legal. In an age where the survival of wildlife of all kinds is so threatened, we should all be cognisant of our responsibility to future generations in the preservation of the diversity of this small planet, and the tolerance of the needs and survival of all life forms - especially as, ultimately, they are all connected. In addition, the way we treat animals is a clear indicator of the level of civilisation we ourselves have attained. After all this, are we still just barbarians, prepared to sacrefice everything or anything for short term financial gain?

Aerial hunting of wolves is immoral, illegal, cruel and barbaric. It is inhumane and must be stopped. There are better, more humane solutions. Wolves belong in Alaska and we must respect their place in the ecological balance as well as respect their right to life. They have the right to not be slaughtered. You have the power to stop the slaughter. Please cosponsor Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.
