Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

Wolves are a sacred animal of America's native Indians and a form of wildlife that many people are inspired by. They are used for motivational, team and leadership training. Besides destroying forests in our country, do we also have to destroy the animals also? This action is deplorable and I am not proud to be an American with such things going on.

Please STOP this slaughter of wolves right away! I am a firm believer that if humans would just leave all the wild animals alone, the whole system would balance itself out ! What gives humans the right to interfere with animals' lives anyhow ??? Sincerely, Mrs Barbara V. Najera

That isn't HUNTING!!! That's just allowing "humans" who enjoy killing something for a trophy to do so without any extra effort! Please end this barbaric process!!!!

This is terrible and brutal and overall disgusting. Just because wolves are animals doesn't mean they should be killed. No animal should be killed for sport unless there is an overpopulation of them. It is absolutely wrong and should be stopped.

I am a 38 year new old Mother; I want my daughter to enjoy all facets of Mother Earth as I have. I also possess a BS in Wildlife Science so this concern is doubly hurtful to me.

Why must the more intellegent of us constantly have to demand that our so-called leaders in government stop the apalling and barbaric propensity of some members of our human species to methodically destroy the diversity of life on this planet? Why are there always "loopholes" deliberately written into laws so that the laws are worthless? How can the Republican VP candidate herself possibly defend the morality of aerial wolf massacres in her own state? Why do the majority of us constantly have to fight to save the entire Earth's ecosystem from the few short-sighted habitat-destroying "developers" and the murderous "hunters" who have blood lust for the power of killing? Why does this keep happening generation after generation? Why can't our so-called intellegent human species ever learn from history? It takes millions of years for any species to evolve. We humans have now completly halted the evolutionary process and caused the extinction of one life form after another. And once a species is extinct, it is gone forever. The breeds of animals and plants we have created are flawed and cannot sustain themselves without our constant intervention. If we do not stop the reckless destruction of the natural world, we will be left with only ourselves, living on our own filth and diseases, finally becoming extinct ourselves. Saving wildlife and nature will save us.

Every animal has its place and purpose in the world. Slaughtering wolves to make a few ranchers happy is not the solution and creates additional problems like deer and elk overpopulation which hurts farmers. Let Mother Nature work out the balance issues. Further, it seems the intent of the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972 is to prevent aerial hunting. Chasing wolves down by plane and shooting them from the ground is a violation of the intent of this law. Please tighten the wording and pass this new bill before other states take the same path. Thank you.

This form of "hunting" is not justified and is slaughter. Please stop aerial slaughter of wolves. Scientific studies have confirmed the ecological value of wolves to help the environment.

Alaskans have twice voted to stop this policy, but the state government continues to allow wolves to be needlessly slaughtered from the skies. Nearly 700 wolves have been killed this way -- and another season has already begun. The PAW Act will put Alaska's savage policy to an end -- and prevent it from spreading to the Greater Yellowstone region. Please sign on to cosponsor this critical legislation today. Thank you for considering my comments. I look forward to hearing from you on this important matter. Sincerely, A Vineyard

Is the governor of Alaska someone you want as a Vice President? Not if this is the kind of brutality she condones. On to bigger and better game with even more power? Stop this massacre.
