Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

This practice is horrible and I have a hard time that any human being could do something this terrible to defenseless animals. Shame on you for not passing this bill.

I very strongly protest the aerial slaughter that is taking place in one of our country's most beautiful areas. I for one want to see it stopped. This is a terrible waste and we are probably using taxpayers money to do it. Stop this killing!

I was raised in a hunting and taught the responsibility to do my best to respect the animal and make as quick a death as possible. The wolf hunting in Alaska isn't hunting. It only killing without respect for the animal and how much it suffers. Aerial methods isn't hunting and rarely effects a quick death. To be wounded from the air, exhausted and watching your killers approach and you can't escape. It's torture.

For me, valuing human life carries over to respecting wildlife. Up in Canada and into Alaska we loved seeing bears, eagles, moose, and other free-reigning critters! When we learned about how the wolves are gunned down and brutally shot, we were horrified!! There certainly needs to be full protection to all wildlife within our open areas. Please make it a priority to support Rep. George Miller's introductory PAW Act (H.R. 3663). Any aerial hunting of wildlife must come to an end! With much appreciation, E.A. Jones

there is no need for hunting animals anymore for the necessity of food. To kill in sport is digusting and cruel. God created this animals and in book of genisis states humans were created to take care of his animals. If your a hunter there is somthing very wrong with you and should look for another hobby to do some good in the world and either help people or other animals in need.

Once again, it is no one's right to kill off our creatures. There is a tender balance within the animal kingdom that even affects our human 'kingdom'. Let us all live healthy loving lives with our counterparts!

Alaskans have twice voted to stop this policy, but the state government continues to allow wolves to be needlessly slaughtered from the skies. Nearly 700 wolves have been killed this way -- and another season has already begun. The PAW Act will put Alaska's savage policy to an end -- and prevent it from spreading to the Greater Yellowstone region. Please sign on to cosponsor this critical legislation today. Thank you for considering my comments. I look forward to hearing from you on this important matter. Sincerley, KC

You should read one of Mark Twains quotes. He says that humans are the only creatures that kill or inflict pain for a sport. It is a sad thing but true. We need to put a stop to this. From dog fighting to Wolves being hunted unfairly from a plane. This is unbelievable that my country allows this inhumane act. My country goes to war to fight for humanity (which I am very proud). Why do we think that there lives mean nothing.

Please change your laws, wolves are one of God's creatures and does not deserve to be hunted down in this matter.

With all the yahoos out gunning for our wolves, let's keep in mind that the proper predator/prey balance will only help riparian and other conservation efforts.

She is a personal affront to me, and though a Republican, I will not vote for her, I request you to do your utmost to help the PAW act put an end to this horrific sport. Thank you for considering these comments and I hope tohear from your on this matter. Madeline P. Koehler

Shooting wolves or other animals from a plane is cruel, not sportsman-like, a waste of energy and causes pollution and carbon emissions for no good reason. Its one thing to hunt and shoot an animal from the ground, to use it for food and leather, but aerial hunting is barbaric and should be prohibited.

I find this kind of activity appalling and out of line with my values. Please stand up for me with and be a voice for my principles. I know there may be complicated issues at play here but aerial hunting cannot be the answer. Not in my name.
