Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

Wolves are wonderful, wild creatures. We have taken so much of the animals habitat away already. Before they end up on the endagered species list please stop the killing of the wolves.

There are other options to the problem than killing wolves. THey are wonderful, needed, feeling mammals that need our efforts to keep them safe from intentional acts of cruelty. Please begin other options and stop killing wolves!

Wolves are the majestic ancestors of domesticated dogs - they exemplify family loyalty, intelligence, and an ordered community. Shooting animals from a plane is the act of a coward, and cannot be condoned.

wolves are considered as beautiful animals. they are intelligent, social and mysterious. just think about all the stories told by the indians about them. it would be such a waste if we extinct them. especially if they don't even have a chance to evolve in a specie that is afraid of men. you see i am a true believer in evolution. if we could just teach the wolves not to enclose city's they won't. even if we have to shoot them we should not do that from out of the sky. but from the city's so that they keep away. but that isn't even nessecary. please stop the killing. As an avid hunter who greatly respects and values all wildlife, I hold myself to a certain ethical standard that includes, among other things, practicing "fair chase" tactics while hunting. I am always disgusted to see or hear about hunters who ignore this standard and would rather chase an animal down in a vehicle than give fair chase on foot. At the very least it's an ethical violation and often becomes illegal when certain hunters fail to step out of the vehicle before taking a shot. The same should be said of aerial hunting for any animal but especially apex predators like wolves and bears that are so important to maintaining healthy ecosystems . I support banning aerial hunting and I hope that you will join me in holding hunters to a higher standard.

Wolves are beautiful smart animals. They are mysterious creatures and are integral to our wildlife. Harming these animals is barbaric! The fact that our government is basically supporting the aerial hunting of wolves by their apathy is atrocious. We need to change this.

Every animal serves a purpose in our ecosystem to which we are a large part. Every influence to our environment whether it be the intentional elimination of an animal or the slashing and burning of trees or plants is echoed all over the planet. It's effects may not be felt for years but by then it's too late. As humans we should learn the most important lesson the wolf has to teach. First and foremost is the pack. Nothing else matters. Every time we slash the rainforest we slash at the pack. Every time we influence the extinction of an animal we influence the extinction of the pack. We are the greatest pack on the planet and as such have a responsibility to live in harmony with our environment, not to manipulate it at our whim. There is a greater good to be served. Sometimes a little sacrifice and compromise are needed on our part to allow nature to go on as it should. Whether that be leaving an area natural or forgiving the wolf for being a wolf when he pulls down a domestic cow or two. The wolf was there long before man was and made it his home. He deserves the respect we would afford to one another in our own homes. We don't kill our neighbors simply to take their homes. Human beings would fight to prevent that. Let's fight to prevent the useless killing of wolves aerial or terrestrial.

I am very offended by the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing aircraft hunting to kill wolves. It absolutely astounds me that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are also considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves. Please sign on as a cosponsor or supporter to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. This legislation is essential in protecting our nation's status as "civilized." Aerial hunting is a horrific, cowardly, contemptuous practice that needs to end immediately. It's amazing that Alaskans have twice voted to stop this policy, but the state government continues to allow wolves to be needlessly slaughtered. Here I sit, marveling at nature as I watch an amazing, beautiful documentary on the Wolves of Yosemite on PBS that took 4 years of intense research, planning, effort, and filming time to complete, which now enriches and educates us all . . . and yet at the same moment, someone is most likely chasing down one of these wonderful creatures in a helicopter, yelling "yee-haw" and slaughtering these same beautiful creatures (in Alaska, and maybe soon, the same Yellowstone wolves I have just marveled at on this documentary.) I am so disgusted. Thank you for reading my comments. I look forward to your support on this critical matter--yes, it is "critical," as it's our very humanity that is at stake.
