Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead. It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all.

Rep. George Miller (CA) has introduced the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, legislation to close a federal loophole and curb Alaska's brutal aerial hunting program -- and prevent programs like it from spreading to places like the Greater Yellowstone region.

Please urge your Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to Rep. George Miller's PAW Act.

As one of your constituents, I am very concerned about the barbaric practice of "aerial hunting" in Alaska, in which state officials are allowing trophy hunters to use aircraft to run down and kill wolves.

I also understand that officials in Wyoming and Idaho are considering the use of aerial hunting of wolves by federal and state agencies.

That's why I'm asking you to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 3663, the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, introduced by Rep. George Miller. The PAW Act would end needless and cruel aerial hunting of wolves and other wildlife by closing a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972.

This is not hunting at all. Doing it from planes because you may get your feet wet boo-hoo you spoiled brats. Hunting would be on the same level as your prey and following there foot prints and when you get close you move in on it called "hunting them down". When in a plane or chopper no adventure there or effort it is plain murder. Slaughtering to be exact. They (the wolves) are in need to keep the balance of nature. Have we not realize what happens when man plays with nature we get burned. So stop this for God sake and Ours...

Can't trust anyone who would kill any animal for the fun of it. The next it will be hunting humans. There was a movie about that. Some hunter wanted a bigger challenge so he released some people he held captive and hunted them down. Believe anyone who can hunt any defenseless animal for the "sport" of it is capable of anything.

It is time to respect the land and all creatures, great and small. Stop the violent insanity of aerial hunting.

We must end this illogical and heinous practice of aerial hunts on wolves, founded not on ecological assessment data but on testosterone charged policy making by inane and misinformed politicians.

Wolves are loyal, social creatures, which only kill for food to survive. If only the same could be said for humans.

Aireal hunting of wolves is a throw back to some very unsportsman like hunting. Where is the sport in sitting in a helicopter and picking the wolves off like fish in a barrel. If people want to experience hunting wolves let them get down on the ground in the cold and pit themselves man against beast. Survival of the fittest not the most technilogically advanced. Of course it's not as if they are actually going to eat the wolves, so actually hunting of wolves serves no real purpose except for braggin rights for the season. Make the hunting of wolves highly regulated defintaley not form the air, which is just unfair. Prehaps the hunting of wolves should be illegal altogether.

think the wolf situation is bad, see what the mighty urban hunters have to do to connect up with nature, decimating the bear population each spring. One single guide boat can wipe out whole populations in just a few seasons. and then there is the herring that all creatures of the ocean depend on. its called sustainable yield. which means that there is only enough feed for the amount of fish that are allowed to spawn. so even if we quit fishing for a while and let more escape the fish would starve from the lack of feed. o yes and the clincher is that now there is only three seafood copanies, the largest in the world, and they have decided that the fish price should stay at 1950 levels.

This practice of shooting wolves is very sickening. It isn't even hunting, it's just plain murder. When are we going to realize nature and man must learn to live together or we will destroy it all. People need to stop voting these people into office
