Stop Puppy Mills in Pennsylvania

Target: Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Sponsored by: ASPCA

The poor treatment and abysmal conditions of dogs in Pennsylvania's puppy mills is already well documented, but a bill to amend the Pennsylvania Dog Law will soon be introduced in the state's House of Representatives.

Passage of this bill is vital if Pennsylvania is to improve conditions for dogs kept in commercial kennels and put an end to the state's reputation as the "puppy mill capital of the East." The bill would require:

  • Doubling the cage space.
  • Veterinarian visits at least once per year and with each pregnancy.
  • Access to outdoor exercise areas.
  • And many more provisions for the health and well-being of dogs.

Sign the petition and urge the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to reform the Dog Law. The dogs have suffered long enough!

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 50,000

Great news! The bill to reform puppy mills in Pennsylvania was introduced as PA HB 2525.

Thank you for your support!
We are writing to urge you to support and cosponsor Representative Casorio's bill to amend the Dog Law. There are over 2100 commercial breeding kennels in Pennsylvania. This crucial legislation would ensure much needed changes to the current Pennsylvania laws regulating commercial dog breeding kennels. Further, it would give the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement the tools they need to effectively and consistently guarantee the humane treatment of dogs housed in Pennsylvania's commercial kennels.

Pennsylvania has developed a reputation as "the puppy mill capital of the East." The State's puppy mill industry garnered national attention recently, with some of its worst kennels being featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The high concentration of large-scale commercial dog breeding facilities, particularly in Lancaster County, has tarnished the State's reputation for decades. Additionally, it has caused countless hardships to both in-state and out-of-state dog owners who have purchased sick dogs bred in Pennsylvania's puppy mills. Representative Casorio's bill will help the State clean up its worst kennels and restore the State's image in the eyes of the entire nation.

Puppy Mills are inhumane to the animals. People are abusing the dogs just to make money. Puppy Mills need to be shut down. No more puppies sold in pet shops or at auctions.

These puppy mills are HORRIBLE! Please stop these from running their businesses... they need to be closed! I went with a friend who adopted a puppy from a puppy mill. The poor thing was shaking! I am glad that she is now in a good home, and she doesn't shake any more... she has really come out of her shell! Shirley

No living being deserves to be brutalized for it's entire life, as these poor dogs are. To never be given decent food, clean water, shelter, veterinary care and, in many cases, to never see the light of day until they are used up and can no longer produce puppies and then be taken out in the field and shot is a travesty. These are God's creatures and He will not hold harmless those monsters who do this to defenseless animals or the ones who stand by and do nothing to stop it. This has to stop now. Please support this important legislation and give a voice to those who have none. Thank you.

Because it's just plain cruel the way these innocent creatures of God are being treated. They deserve to be treated with respect and love!

It is time to put the puppy millers out of business. THey don't care about the dogs only the money they get.The dogs are mistreated they live in cages, no health care no love which i'm sure you would agree that all living creatures need. We need to get rid of the puppy mills. Suzanne Fischer

I have friends who rescue from several Amish puppy mills after the millers are through with the dogs. The condition these poor animals are in makes me sick.

The laws that protect children in this country should be mirrored for all puppies, after all, they are defenseless, dependant, innocent, and they become part of our family. Let's treat them like a loved one.

Puppy mills are inhumane. They treat "Mans best friend" like a lab rats. Never handled which increases aggression, kept in unsanitary conditions, and the breeders don't pay attention to bloodline which can also lead to more behavior problems in their litters.

I was a friend of a pet shop manager. I later found out that conditions were DEPLORABLE there. There were often dead dogs stacked up in the freezer, thrown in the dumpster, or even lying in their cages dead for a period of time. This was at the pet shop where they sold them. The conditions at the puppy mills are even more horrifying! These are living breathing souls and we need to respect and honor them as we would our own children, as they are God's children. God bless the helpless animals that are subject to these heartless people!

I may not be the smartest person in the world but I know for a fact that no animal should have to be treated so horrible and have to live in such conditions. A dog is a man's best friend and should not be locked up in these places. Although the people doing this do not realize that it is so terrible and inhuman, we need to stop these people and keep these dogs from being killed.

I don't understand how this is allowed to continue in this day and age. Are peopl so cold that they don't care anymore? Why is this even being DEBATED? Pass the damn bill already! No animal should have to live in inhumane conditions; cramped, underfed, sick just because they worry more about the money they'll make from selling them. Puppy mills shouldn't even be in existence. The fact that people get dogs to breed endlessly is sickening to even think about. Please, put an end to this already! You should be ashamed you're even allowing this to continue. Do the pictures not break your heart?
