Stop Puppy Mills in Pennsylvania

Target: Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Sponsored by: ASPCA

The poor treatment and abysmal conditions of dogs in Pennsylvania's puppy mills is already well documented, but a bill to amend the Pennsylvania Dog Law will soon be introduced in the state's House of Representatives.

Passage of this bill is vital if Pennsylvania is to improve conditions for dogs kept in commercial kennels and put an end to the state's reputation as the "puppy mill capital of the East." The bill would require:

  • Doubling the cage space.
  • Veterinarian visits at least once per year and with each pregnancy.
  • Access to outdoor exercise areas.
  • And many more provisions for the health and well-being of dogs.

Sign the petition and urge the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to reform the Dog Law. The dogs have suffered long enough!

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 50,000

Great news! The bill to reform puppy mills in Pennsylvania was introduced as PA HB 2525.

Thank you for your support!
We are writing to urge you to support and cosponsor Representative Casorio's bill to amend the Dog Law. There are over 2100 commercial breeding kennels in Pennsylvania. This crucial legislation would ensure much needed changes to the current Pennsylvania laws regulating commercial dog breeding kennels. Further, it would give the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement the tools they need to effectively and consistently guarantee the humane treatment of dogs housed in Pennsylvania's commercial kennels.

Pennsylvania has developed a reputation as "the puppy mill capital of the East." The State's puppy mill industry garnered national attention recently, with some of its worst kennels being featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The high concentration of large-scale commercial dog breeding facilities, particularly in Lancaster County, has tarnished the State's reputation for decades. Additionally, it has caused countless hardships to both in-state and out-of-state dog owners who have purchased sick dogs bred in Pennsylvania's puppy mills. Representative Casorio's bill will help the State clean up its worst kennels and restore the State's image in the eyes of the entire nation.

Puppy mills quite simply should not exist, they are absolutely deplorable, the animals are overbreed, which causes genetic problems, the pups tend to be riddled with various health problems because of this, as well as living in extremely awful unsanitary conditions which frequently result in death of many pups. The people don't care about the animals just about the $$... Humans are so shallow, please stop puppy mills - you wouldn't want to begin your life in a dirty crowded cage invested with worms, fleas, parasites, ... why should they?

Just look into the eyes of one of these dogs. Their ability to feel is evident, and their current situation is miserable.

Puppy mills are not humane in their care of their animals, also, I personally know of several people who have purchased puppies, usually from pet stores then a few months go by and the dog gets sick, or the dog has issues because of over breeding or inbreeding. Watching someone spend thousands of dollars caring for these animals, and the emotional turmoil they and their children go through is horrible. There are too many animals that need homes as it is, make the puppy mills clean up their act and do the right thing. Thank you!!

No animal should have to suffer at the hands of people only interested in making money A true responsible breeder would make sure that their pets are healthy and kept in clean conditions. Other than that they are only in it for the money and the silent animals need our voices. These are God's creation.

Please help bring an end to the commercial breeding kennels in PA. Millions of dogs and cats are killed every year because there are not enough homes for all of them, we do not need people breeding more!

If people can not see why these puppy mill practices need to reform or better yet put an end to puppy mills then they really need to search themselves and find some compassion and try to figure out what in the world is wrong with a "person" who finds these practices acceptable. Anyone with any kind of heart at all can see that these puppies need love and good care. They are innocent beautiful animals, these animals have feelings and emotions. They become depressed, scared, etc. just like humans feel those same emotions. I really think that the people who treat animals in such repulsive, cruel ways should have the same kind of treatment done to them and see how much they like it. Then, maybe, just maybe, they will begin to understand. ANIMAL ABUSERS MUST BE PUNISHED!!! THEY ARE COMMITING VERY SERIOUS CRIMES AND MUST PAY FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!

Cruelty to our most helpless creatures is really a sign of a sick society. We need to make a choice about what kind of people we are as a country and this is one way in which we need to make it clear that we protect the weak.

Pennsylvania is the puppy mill capital of the East. Is that something you are proud of? Please clean up your act and put an end to this shameful inhumane treatment of dogs. We as a people should be better than that.
