Target:George W. Bush, President Sponsored by:Oceana
Our oceans are on the verge of collapse. Ninety percent of the "big" fish, such as tuna, marlin and swordfish, are gone. And now, scientists estimate that the world's commercial fisheries may collapse by the year 2048.
Already, 29 percent of fish and seafood species have collapsed, meaning their catch has declined by 90 percent. Time is running out for our oceans - but it's not too late, if we act now. And yet, the Bush Administration continues to under-fund critical ocean conservation, research and management programs.
Tell President Bush to protect our oceans so that the next generation can also enjoy their bounty. Please urge President Bush to fully fund ocean programs and make a commitment to protect and restore our endangered ocean ecosystems.
We signed the “Restore the Health of Our Oceans!” petition!

We must work to protect and conserve declining aquatic populations. We need to clean up and protect their environment (their habitats, their food supplies.) We also need to clean up the plastic etc. garbage that is whirling around in the sea (in the Pacific Ocean) and along coastlines. We need to stop the plastic from getting into the sea in the first place. Are boats from our country or other countries just dropping their garbage and wastes in the oceans? If so, then we need to find out how and where this is coming from ... and detour it to recyclable sources. We need to find out how this stuff is winding up in the seas?

Our oceans comprise 3/4 of the surface of the planet, and that doesn't even take into consideration the millions of square miles of undersea "space" between the surface and the ocean floor. If we don't ensure the life of our oceans, this planet will not continue to sustain us. By allowing our oceans to deteriorate, we are committing global suicide.

If any more fish and seafood species are lost the critical point may be reached that causes the collapse of all marine life. That will hurt our planet in untold ways, and could still be prevented with careful, judicious management. Please do what is right - not for big money, but for all future generations.

George Bush,
Save the oceans! It is imperative that we protect the many species of seafood and fish species. Help preserve the oceans. If not, we will be faced with the guilt of being responsible for the deaths of many marine specimens.

Ofcourse, life began first on ocean and then came to land.. i believe that oceans are the cradle for life. I suggest that ocean conservation should be fully funded by the president.

According to the NOAA.gov, we rely on the oceans for much more than food: they are CO2 sinks...and the biggest sink is now frighteningly full a good 50 years before anticipated! Although it is not your fault directly, you will go down in history as "the straw that broke humanity's back" if you don't put the world's survival before private interests in a very big way.

I heard that the oceans are G~D's and the stewarship problem is ours. I'm not sure what is meant in the bible but it says the beast will come out of the ocean. A Don Mcclelland song says that the holy spirit will go to the coast. Did you know that 2/3 of our oxygen they say comes from plankton?
