Don't Forget Hurricane Katrina and Rita Victims!

Target: 2008 Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: Oxfam America
Two years after the devastation brought on by Hurricane Katrina and Rita, the Gulf Coast is still hurting. Tens of thousands still live in temporary housing. Schools are closed. Businesses are struggling.

Continued neglect threatens to leave people poor and more at risk. With politicians are suffering from "Katrina amnesia," the current presidential candidates have a renewed chance to bring the Gulf Coast the help it needs.

Let's make sure the new leadership in the White House recognizes that, even though the issue isn't on the front pages anymore, the recovery is NOT over.

Rebuilding plans must be outlined  for  the southern states - before the next election.

Join us in asking the 2008 presidential candidates to issue their agenda outlining how, as president, they will recover the hurricane-devastated region!

deadline: 7-10-2008

Daily barrages of the victims of wars in other countries flood our media every day. My heart aches for them. But what of the thousands of displaced Americans that still suffer from Katrina? How as a country can we possible believe we have the ability to rebuild and stablize other countries on the other side of the world when we've neglected our own people? Make Katrina a top priority and let's fix our own backyard before telling others how to fix theirs.

Stop spending money on fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq and put the money into resources and aid for the Hurricane victims.

They should increase the productivity of FEMA in general by enlisting a system that keeps the aid going to the 'proper' people. Also, more development needs to go into preparation prior to a disaster not only recovering after.
