Protect Darfur Women and Their Daughters from Abuse and Genocide

Target: President Bush and the UN Secretary-General
Sponsored by: Save Darfur Coalition
Right now there is a terrible government-sponsored genocide taking place in Darfur, Sudan. Over 2.5 million people have already been driven from their homes and hundreds of thousands more have been brutally murdered by the Janjaweed, a government-sponsored militia.

Darfuri women and girls are under constant threat of rape and physical assault by the Janjaweed. Girls as young as eight risk being raped and attacked when they leave their homes or refugee camps to gather firewood and food. Hungry families face a terrible choice each day - do they send out their husbands and sons who may be killed, or their mothers and daughters, who may be raped and beaten? This is a choice no one should ever have to make!

Please join the Save Darfur Coalition in speaking up for these women and girls who have no voice. Sign the petition asking the UN Secretary-General and President Bush to take immediate steps to stop the genocide.
deadline: 12-4-2007

Dear [Decision Maker]

Everyday, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture, and murder. Therefore, we call on you to do the following:

- Push for the immediate deployment of the already-authorized UN peacekeeping force.

- Strengthen the understaffed African Union force already in Darfur until the UN force can be deployed.

- Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for delivery.

- Establish a no-fly zone.

Why must we wait untill something is actually done? Does it take 1 death, 100 deaths, 1,000 deaths, 100,000 deaths? This is the price of inaction! And while we wait, the death toll rises...

A genocide should not be taking place in this day and age. There is simply no excuse for the amount of suffering being experienced in Darfur. We need to help Darfurian women and children rise up.

It is time to stop pretending that this is not happening. If this were to take place anywhere in the US we would not tolerate it and genocide in Darfur is real ad it is happening.

We are citizens of one world. Just because we shut our eyes does not mean it is not happening. We have resources to help and should.

It is very important to stop the crisis because women shouldn't have to go through this type of abuse. We all should take this serious we all have daughters, we have mothers...it is a good cause....

You know, one would think that Genocide would have ended with Hitler. We obviously haven't learned anything. The fact that there is a Genocide happening right now just goes to show how far society has fallen. You both have incredible power at your hands, and you can use this power to stop the horrors in Darfur. No eight year old girl should have to live in fear everyday of being raped or beaten.

The fact that this is happening is almost too overwhelming to think about- that women are little girls are living in constant fear of being killed, beaten, and/or raped. As overwhelming as it may be the gorvernments MUST get involved IMMEDIATELY to stop this horrific genocide. What are we waiting for??
