Protect Darfur Women and Their Daughters from Abuse and Genocide

Target: President Bush and the UN Secretary-General
Sponsored by: Save Darfur Coalition
Right now there is a terrible government-sponsored genocide taking place in Darfur, Sudan. Over 2.5 million people have already been driven from their homes and hundreds of thousands more have been brutally murdered by the Janjaweed, a government-sponsored militia.

Darfuri women and girls are under constant threat of rape and physical assault by the Janjaweed. Girls as young as eight risk being raped and attacked when they leave their homes or refugee camps to gather firewood and food. Hungry families face a terrible choice each day - do they send out their husbands and sons who may be killed, or their mothers and daughters, who may be raped and beaten? This is a choice no one should ever have to make!

Please join the Save Darfur Coalition in speaking up for these women and girls who have no voice. Sign the petition asking the UN Secretary-General and President Bush to take immediate steps to stop the genocide.

Dear [Decision Maker]

Everyday, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture, and murder. Therefore, we call on you to do the following:

- Push for the immediate deployment of the already-authorized UN peacekeeping force.

- Strengthen the understaffed African Union force already in Darfur until the UN force can be deployed.

- Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for delivery.

- Establish a no-fly zone.

These women and girls are BRUTALLY RAPED,sometimes with STICKS,causing permanent damage to their internal organs, causing constant pain.Imagine the horror they go through, how painful it would be.These women and girls also often times end up pregnant, they risk STDs,and their husbands and communities shunning them, they are left traumatized, ashamed, and suffer many, many problems due to these horrible acts upon them. The youngest of the girls are usually 14,younger perhaps even. These atrocities against women and girls in Darfur has gone on for far too long,it's high time it's been ended, they deserve the right to not have to live in fear of brutal rape, and possibly even death at the hands of a barbaric, cruel militia.

Darfur genocide is such a huge issue and I still dont and i dont think i ever will understand why no one has done much of anything to stop something so horrifying.

I'm a sophomore in highschool and we briefly discussed what is happening in the genocide in DarFur, and I think it is one of the most important situations that needs to be dealt with and fixed. I personally do not understand how our country, known as the home of the BRAVE, can sit back and do nothing to help our fellow human beings. It's a disgrace to our country, our people, and our leaders. We need to put aside our egos and prioritize. Saving lives and preventing murder should be number one.

After learning about the genocide in Darfur, i would like to do my best to help stop this tragic event in any way i can. It makes no sense why someone with the full knowledge of the problem would continue to choose to take no action. The simeplest action to us can save someones life; is'nt that worth a little effort.

Everyone wants happiness, no-one wants suffering. In this way, every single being is identical. The people of Darfur are suffering. Help save them, simply because you yourself would want to be saved, if you were in such a position as they are now.

Once the world said "Never Again." But it is happening again. We need to make human beings and human rights the most valued resource, no matter what country they live in. We clearly don't have our priorities straight.

The entire world has been afflicted by the violation of human rights. Darfur has gone beyond the point of barbaric and falls into a category of its own. Turn a blind eye and the administration will ultimately follow in the footsteps of its predecesors. Do something about the situation and you'll set a precedent unmatched to ANY president or UN Secretary-General the world has ever seen.

The crisis in Darfur is getting worse by the day!! When there are natural disasters in the world such as the tsunami in Indonesia, we send aid of all kinds; why then can't we intervene in this terrible situation in Darfur? The situation is volatile and we should do something about it so that these people can live a life without fear and live one instead with hope and promise.

We fought so hard for women's rights here in america and won, so why shouldn't we help the women here and help them win this freedom that some have taken for granted

Most of these women were not given an education, therefore they were not given a voice. We are educated enough to know that this is wrong and we have to voice and power to stop it.
