Protect Darfur Women and Their Daughters from Abuse and Genocide

Target: President Bush and the UN Secretary-General
Sponsored by: Save Darfur Coalition
Right now there is a terrible government-sponsored genocide taking place in Darfur, Sudan. Over 2.5 million people have already been driven from their homes and hundreds of thousands more have been brutally murdered by the Janjaweed, a government-sponsored militia.

Darfuri women and girls are under constant threat of rape and physical assault by the Janjaweed. Girls as young as eight risk being raped and attacked when they leave their homes or refugee camps to gather firewood and food. Hungry families face a terrible choice each day - do they send out their husbands and sons who may be killed, or their mothers and daughters, who may be raped and beaten? This is a choice no one should ever have to make!

Please join the Save Darfur Coalition in speaking up for these women and girls who have no voice. Sign the petition asking the UN Secretary-General and President Bush to take immediate steps to stop the genocide.
deadline: 12-4-2007

Dear [Decision Maker]

Everyday, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture, and murder. Therefore, we call on you to do the following:

- Push for the immediate deployment of the already-authorized UN peacekeeping force.

- Strengthen the understaffed African Union force already in Darfur until the UN force can be deployed.

- Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for delivery.

- Establish a no-fly zone.

The people in Darfur are people. They are no better or less. They are our brothers and sisters and letting them suffer when we can help them is just wrong.

Most Americans know how hard it is to keep your family fed, and pay bills. And we know what it's like to cry and worry about not being able to give your children the basic amenities of life. I know this first hand and my family does not eat out. But even I know that these people are worse off than the poorest American. These children are literally starving to death and sleeping outside and being abused and murdered. Where does Americas money go? Why are we consumed with what is in fashion, how much it costs where are the best places to eat, What kind of car should I drive...While in another country they are worried about how they will survive, their children are naked, what will they eat? will they eat today? Will they live another day? Your view point on what matters in life and what doesn't is refocused when you think about these things, and if it's not then you are selfish. Look at it this way. Americans are having surgeries to get fat removed. At the same time these people are dying because they are malnourished. And this is just about the way they live. My god then to top it off it's actually worse there to be a woman, as if it could possibly get worse! I'd still love to figure out why in most countries what exactly it is that makes a woman a third class citizen or the equivalence to cattle. I don't give a care what their beliefs are, they are wrong! NO one deserves this kind of treatment!

how can you drive around in 7 different s.u.v.'s and wear designer clothes and pay 200 dollars a meal at a fine restaraunt while you are supposed to be runnng a country that is about helping people? why are these people still dying? why are children being born just to die within their first years of life ? how long will infants have to know nothing but hunger while we are getting fatter as a country? why dont we quit bombing children and start feeding them? i thik nits time that we as a peole start taking responsiblity for our own species and send some aid. why do these girls hav eto go through having everything taken from them and constantly have their souls worn away until they are nothing but a shell...what if it were your children?

If we are to show concern for fellow citizens of the Earth, it needs to go beyond countries with an oil reserve. I want my tax dollars to be represented by protection of the women and childern in Darfur.
